Killing Him with Kindness
I think this is precisely what the President did today, and no, I don't really think Boner appreciated it. :D

Killing Him with Kindness

President Obama went out of his way to praise House Speaker John Boehner at his press conference today on the debt ceiling negotiations.

"And I want to say I appreciate Speaker Boehner's good-faith efforts on that front... I think Speaker Boehner has been very sincere about trying to do something big... My experience with John Boehner has been good. I think he's a good man who wants to do right by the country."

Do you think Boehner appreciated it?

1. Of course Boehner appreciated it. Now everyone knows the truth:
he's Obama's flunky.

2. He's thinking
This sucker just keeps giving. Can't get an agreement because tax beaks to billionaires are off the table. Obama practically cut Grandma's throat to maneuver the GOP into this sickening corner and instead lends a helping hand instead- but grandma- watch out!

4. He's trying to give Boehner wriggle room.
In the press conference he said he bent over backwards to reach a deal, but (I paraphrase) the ideologues on the right wouldn't compromise. He's trying to make it so they don't have to vote on a tax increase next month. Boehner, he said in essence, isn't the problem, it's the "difficult politics in his caucus" that are the problems. Elsewhere, the politics that helped the (R) party favored a mid-term election, but make governing difficult. Again, more "blame the ideologues, we're the good guys."

In other words, Obama is the centrist and Boehner's trying to be one, but the arch-rightwingers simply won't let him be a reasonable, grown-up, non-partisans in the room do the responsible thing. Part is pressuring Boehner; part is trying to make (R) look bad; much, very much, is trying to make himself look golden.

3. It sure is better than 'I think they should be given a sort of rights
but only my kind is Sanctified by God'. Way, way better.
