Polls: Obama gaining support among independents, most blame Bush/Wall Street for economic mess
Towards the end of its front-page report on today's deficit talks "Obama Takes Centrist Banner in Impasse Over Deficit," The New York Times reported on Obama's increasing but split support among independent voters:

By November’s midterm elections, some national polls showed a majority of independents disapproved of his job performance, and winning them back has been central to the White House’s political strategy.

This year, support among independents is up, though Mr. Obama still has a way to go to regain his former standing. A New York Times/CBS News poll in June gave Mr. Obama a 50 percent approval rating among independents, up five points from the start of the year, though a Wall Street Journal/NBC News poll in June had 50 percent of independents disapproving of the job he is doing.

According to RealClearPolitics, Obama currently has a . It also links to the major polls and the CBS and NBC ones mentioned in the article i quoted.

From the :
- 26% of voters blame the Bush administration for the current economic situation; that is the largest plurality among all the answers followed by Wall Street (25%), Congress (11%), Obama admin (8%), and "all of the above" (7%).
- Regarding the 2012 election, only 23% of Republican voters are satisfied with the current crop of candidates (Bachmann, Pawlenty, Cain, Santorum, etc.).
- Also, only 19% of Democrats feel less enthusiastic about voting in 2012, 24% more, and 57% same.
- 76% of Democrats approved of Obama's approach to the presidency.

1. If he thinks he can win reelection by pissing off Democrats he'd better reconsider
His new BFF's the "independents" will not give him the votes if enough Dems decide to sit out the election.

It's a cinch no republicans will vote for him.

After months of the republicans portraying Obama as the guy who destroyed Social Security and Medicare.

14. I bash them because most of them are misinformed and easily led.
But if they can be easily led in the right direction, I'm down with that.

March on... :)

11. Not Shocking
Anybody with common sense knows that most of the blame lays on the Bush Administration and their deregulated Wall Street.

13. Then why are Bush/Wall Street getting off scott free?
Why the impunity? Impunity guarantees that the next one will be far worse.

15. I know he can multi-task but right now this "debt crisis"
Edited on Wed Jul-13-11 04:50 PM by Fire1
requires his undivided attention. If he was a white man there would be no "debt crisis" and the ceiling would be raised without a whimper. But because of these racist dicks on the hill, what would otherwise be a very simple issue has now turned into a monumental catastrophe of unproportional magnitude.
