Bill Maher Thinks You're Stupid Enough to Elect Sarah Palin
Posted by Sasha Brown-Worsham on July 12, 2011 at 12:34 PM

Monday night, Bill Maher went on Piers Morgan Tonight to chat about, among other things, the 2012 Presidential election and Michele Bachmann and Sarah Palin. More specifically, he was there to instill fear into us all. Those of us who have stupidly believed Sarah Palin can't be elected need to wake up.

It's true, too. I never in a million years believed George W. Bush could be elected President after he so clearly bombed the debates with Al Gore, but sure enough, he was (well, sort of anyway). The fact is, currently we have a President many thought we never would have elected in the first place. Surprising things happen and many, many people in this country are just not that educated or intelligent and they find those qualities threatening.

For many, Obama's clear intelligence and even manner are actually a detriment.

The fact is, people seem to like their politicians passionate, and sometimes passion and intelligence don't go hand in hand. Somehow, in this country, we have gotten away from the idea that working hard and going to good schools and having an open mind is a good thing. And it's frightening.

I share his fear.

1. Well, I do not share his fear.
Her numbers are falling and I really don't think she'll run anyway. She's having too much fun making the big bucks.

If she does run (and she won't) she will be eviscerated by the press.

Mark my words.

There is no end to the ditzy half-wits that the Repubs have in the bullpen.

18. I fear Bachmann more than Palin.
Bachmann's got more actual federal election experience, and she's got more ambition and drive to make a Presidential run than Palin's got.

She's just as batshit crazy, but far more dangerous IMHO. Let's hope that the scandal about her husband's clinics doing pray-the-gay-away reparative therapy succeeds in tearing her campaign down...

3. This is true and way too possible.
On last weeks program, Maher lectured that voting for Republicans is akin to voting not guilty for the Anthony girl.
I won't take issue with a jury, after all they are our peers - and that is exactly the point.
After all, how can anyone living below the Golden 1% line, vote for a Republican when doing so is seemingly counter to their own best interests? But vote they do.
It's a clique, but the masses are indeed asses; otherwise Sarah Palin would be long past her 15 minutes.

5. I was watching Bill host "Politically Incorrect" in 2000 when he endorsed Ralph Nader.
Edited on Tue Jul-12-11 06:29 PM by John1956PA
Here is an excerpt from a Wikipedia page on Bill Maher at http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Real_Time_with_Bill_Maher:

He endorsed the candidacy of Ralph Nader of the Green Party in the U.S. presidential campaign of 2000. After the 2000 election, Maher was among those who felt that votes cast by progressives for Nader possibly cost Democratic candidate Al Gore the election, and put George W. Bush in the White House.

At the time, I knew that Bill's endorsement was misguided, since it could only hurt the chances of Al Gore.

7. Al Gore and Joe Lieberman spoiled the election for Nader.
Gore/Lieberman should have dropped out when a real liberal entered the race.

8. IMHO...
Lieberman on the ticket did as much damage to Gore as voting for Nader.

They make Freepers look like scholars. And I am not kidding.

Any asshole who would vote for Palin or Bachmann needs to be locked in a rubber room for a year, if only for the fact that putting anyone who thinks past Republican presidencies = prosperity-fests in the White House is quite literally the definition of insanity.
