Romney rejects gay marriage pledge
Mittens is really trying to distance himself from "teh crazy"... I still doubt he can make it to the nomination but moves like this would seem to make him a tougher opponent.

Romney rejects gay marriage pledge
THOMAS BEAUMONT
Associated Press

DES MOINES, Iowa (AP) -- Former Massachusetts Gov. Mitt Romney's campaign said Tuesday that he will not sign a conservative Iowa Christian group's far-reaching pledge opposing gay marriage, making him the first Republican presidential candidate to reject it.

Two of Romney's rivals for the Republican nomination, Minnesota Rep. Michele Bachmann and former Pennsylvania Sen. Rick Santorum, have signed the The Family Leader's 14-point pledge, which calls on the candidates to denounce same-sex marriage rights, pornography, same-sex military accommodations and forms of Islamic law.

When it was first circulated last week, the introduction to the pledge stated that African American children were more likely to be raised in two-parent households when they were born into slavery than they are today. The group struck that language and apologized after black ministers complained, but it said it stands by the rest of the document.

Andrea Saul, a spokeswoman for Romney, told The Associated Press in a written statement Tuesday that Romney "strongly supports traditional marriage," but that the oath "contained references and provisions that were undignified and inappropriate for a presidential campaign."

4. All the Chamber money in the world won't save him. Business interests created this monster.
They thought they could control the "Tea Partiers" with their tools like Hannity, but Limbaugh set up the road of hate 20 years ago. They unleashed this monster, and somebody like Bachmann may be the result, not Romney - If she can hate enough.

but since we should acknowledge when our opponents occasionally do the right thing, I salute him for this.

7. Good for him
I don't really like him, but at least he is standing up to the despicable theocrats that have polluted his party.

8. Yet, liberals, progressives and some Democrats compare him to Senator Kerry
Edited on Tue Jul-12-11 11:54 PM by politicasista
as a "flip-flopper" when Mittens is the real, legitimate one of them all. And Kerry's record has been consistent until the media distorted everything by ripping him to shreds.

Be nice if we would stick these RW memes on the GOP rather than on good Dems.

9. Why is the headline of the AP article "Romney rejects gay marriage pledge"...
When Romney is actually okay with that part of the pledge?
