CNN just reported President "stormed out of the room saying, 'This may bring my presidency down.'" |
|
When, according to the reports, he said something along the lines of: "This may bring down my Presidency but I'm not going to yield on this."
BIG difference.
Shame on you CNN!
Oh, and for those who keep reporting that the President "stormed out of the meeting," here's a fact: the President doesn't leave meetings. Unless he indicates otherwise, when the President leaves a meeting, the meeting is over.

10. Exactly! i'm sure many WH meetings have ended with disgusted former presidents left the room |
|
Yet I've never heard any of them described as "storming out of" any room.

13. That's why he is forced to speak to the GOP as if they were actually children... |
|
Firm words, dulcet tones.
That's another thing about the story... seems that line is seriously cherry picked. Not just because of the obvious omission of words, but in what context? Did someone ask him a specific question? There is a lot more to this than that smattering of words.

23. It happend between 9am and 10am, because I had a conference call |
|
at 10am, and I went into my home office at about 9am, turn on CNN, and started going through my email.
Somewhere between 9 and 10, some dope on CNN said EXACTLY what the OP said.
They CLEARLY claimed that Obama had said "this could bring down my Presidency".
And that caught my attention, because I already knew that the larger context was that he said he didn't care if it brought down his Presidency, he wasn't going to let the GOP have their way.
But, the way the CNN anchor CLIPPED it, it came across as if Obama was telling the GOP that ... "hey guys, stop, this could bring down my Presidency!!"
Which is STUPID on its FACE. And that is why it caught my attention. The GOP's goal IS to bring down his Presidency, regardless of the consequences to average Americans, Obama KNOWS that, and so he told them, "I don't care if it brings down my Presidency, you are not getting what you want!!"
And CNN's morning anchor's framing, as I said, was ridiculous.

15. and last I read, this is some rethug aide 'quoting" Obama as he left the room |
|
I have not heard ONE dem or dem aide claiming he made those remarks.
but yes, shame on CNN reporting rethug claims from a closed room as fact.

19. I don't have a problem with them reporting it. I have a problem with them reporting only half of it |
|
And, thereby, making it sound as if the President "stormed out of the room" because he thought that what was happening might "bring down" his Presidency - in reality, if the quote is accurate, he was saying just the opposite.

18. Yes. When the President walks out, the meeting is over. |
|
Ever read any history of past Presidents -- including JFK, LBJ, Nixon, Reagan, Clinton and Georgie Boy? President Kennedy famously stormed out of a National Security meeting at the White House when the Joint Chiefs were pushing a first-strike nuclear attack in 1961. It's the President's house, his meetings, he doesn't ask permission to leave the table. And when he's insulted in his own house by self-absorbed pissants like Cantor, I think the disrespectful perp should NOT be invited back - ever.
Let Cantor gain admittance to the White House the hard way - by being elected to it. The little asshole would go nowhere in a run for national office. And I'll contribute to any Dem who runs for his seat in 2012.

Someone's demanding something that they will not get from the President--wonder who got under his skin to cause him to 'end' the meeting?
