1. I couldn't Agree more - but it will take more then just Obama
meaning quite a few DEMs would have to grow a spine

12. Absolutely. And beyond that, they all have to get on message together.
It's pretty basic stuff here.

But it requires taking an "us-versus-them" stance.

Which, ya would think, would come pretty naturally in a campaign season.

16. What have Dems failed to do so far on her behalf and that of her agency?

What new options do they have now over Republican obstructionism that they haven't tried to exercise in Congress already, in the example of HER case?

20. Unfortunately some of the obstructionism seems to have come from Chris Dodd himself.
I don't know why he was doing so much blathering last summer about Warren being "unconfirmable," she didn't "have the votes," a recess appointment would be a mistake, etc.

In my view, last summer/fall was *exactly* the right time to make a big deal about choosing the head of the new agency, ahead of the mid-term vote.

It could have been just the sort of fight that shows voters who's on their side: Democrats, fighting for consumer protection versus republicans, fighting for the bankers right to screw ya to the wall.

Maybe that's just the sort of fight we can expect now, heading into the 2012 election season.

Hope so.

22. Thank you Z.
I think you are right. The time is always right, as it would have been then, on a what could ONLY be a winning public issue: Nobody has liked the feeling of having been screwed to the wall by the banksters.

5. we have needed to do this for some time...
republicans are bullies, the only thing bullies understand is a bloody nose. Too bad people like LBJ, Truman, and Wellstone are no longer around. Hell, put Bobby in that group too- he didn't take anybody's shit.

Edited on Tue Jul-19-11 12:25 AM by vroomvroom
As noticed time and again when democrats capitulate and then like clockwork half of DU comes out in its support....and this is why Obama loves you so much.

14. Need to know when to hold'em and when to fold'em.
People differ on what can be compromised and the difference runs on a spectrum from far right to far left. People move up and down the spectrum depending on the issue unless one is a Republican politician who signed Grover Norquist's No Tax Promise. Don't agree with Obama all the time but he's better than the alternative IMHO.

17. I'd rather see compromise...
Than seeing one party running roughshod over the other and seeing BushCo part deux with Obama in the lead.

I know that's what some on DU want, and all I can say to that is... If ignorance is bliss, why are you so angry?

24. Compromise would be good.
A compromise is shrinking government spending, which Republicans want, and doing so by cutting two wars and the defense budget like Democrats want.

That is a compromise.

This "gang of six" deal is bullshit. It's a complete cave in to Republicans.

21. From what I'm hearing in Massachusetts, it's very uncertain at this point.
My own hunch is that Scott Brown's vote on the debt ceiling could push the decision either way.

He's really in a jam at the moment, and how he handles it could have a big influence on the entire Senate race in Mass.
