16. Not only does it cut social programs
It reduces taxes on the wealthy and forces the middle class to pay more in taxes by eliminating those deductions that are mostly used by the middle class.

It's actually pretty close to the Catfood Commission proposal.

In order words, it's a SHIT SANDWICH and the "Gang of Six" is forcing the American people to take a bite.

10. 80 billion from DOD vs
Finance would permanently reform or replace the Medicare Sustainable Growth Rateformula ($298 billion) and fully offset the cost with health savings, would find anadditional $202 billion/$85 billion in health savings, and would maintain the essentialhealth care services that the poor and elderly rely upon

If you understand what that statement means, then please explain it to me, because to me it looks like a direct cut of 500 billion and somehow this is supposed to maintain essential health care services.....

14. "health savings" would be what they pay the Doctor/Hosp.

The other highly overlooked line item would be "Malpractice Reform"

18. I just read that the military cuts would be based on
cutting retirements and military health care. The MIC wouldn't lose a cent.

7. Yes he absolutely should
I read the summary that someone else linked to.

I have not found ANY revenue increases....only a fairytale story of how reducing taxes and broadening the base would somehow stimulate growth. THAT NEVER WORKED BEFORE, AND SOMEHOW NOW IT IS SUPPOSED TO DO THE TRICK.

13. The tax cuts are permanent under this plan
Actually - the plan reduces taxes even further - eliminates the AMT AND reduces corporate tax rates.

34. I'm not outraged.
I'm just saying that what the fact sheet I linked to spells out is a shitty proposal.

The bad things that are explicitly listed far outweigh the good things, and to the degree that it's relying on future agents to flesh out the details it's even worse.

I won't cast judgment until this is finished being played out, but I don't take it as a positive sign that Obama says this plan puts them on the same "playing field". At this point the best bet is to go with McConnell's plan B of a clean debt ceiling raise, and then address our long term fiscal problems in a couple of years when hopefully we have a higher ratio of grownups to freakjobs in Congress.

25. The proposals are still a work in progress, not a plan, meaning 'watch this space.'
Plus the Dems just announced there isn't enough time to complete a compromise package ... so maybe Congress will get another shot at an actual clean vote.

As fun as you think it may be, there's enough anxiety over this already without you losing your blob prematurely over a hypothetical.

28. Why blame Obama when we are borrowing 40 cents on every $ spent?
If you and I did that in our family budget, we would be in a bankruptcy court pronto! Obama has no choice except to tighten belts. This gang of 6 proposal is the least destructive of social services from what I have seen.

This proposal includes eliminating many loopholes which the so called "rich" use more than lesser folks.

Just in the executive summary, you can see the clear focus on supply side theory in the name of economic growth. It is indeed a shitty proposal.

33. Ok, I recant my snark, if this PDF is the plan.
It is stupid and idiotic.

The plan is to massively cut revenues. In hopes of achieving greater revenues.

I am stunned to the point of being a person of few words.
