is the only way that this debt ceiling gets raised. Listening to idiots like Louie Gomer Pyle and Michele Bachmann and the nerd who finally is popular after going through his whole life seen as the jerk off that he is in Eric Cantor leading them-they are in complete and total denial not even thinking or believing that this has to be done. They will NOT vote on anything. They want this country to go into a deep recession or a depression so they can blame it all on Obama.
So then what is the only other option? Obama invoking the 14th amendment clause at which point the republicans in the house will sue for impeachment. I know all you people who say "oh that's crazy, it could never happen" watch. This is a no-lose deal for these zealots in the house of reps. Either the country goes into a depression (great for the GOP-they can blame Obama) or he's forced to use the 14th amendment and they will try to impeach him-win-win situation for them,

1. Why do you keep pushing that BS about impeachment. |
|
If President Obama invokes the 14th amendment of the U.S. Constitution - it is NOT a criminal act.
To impeach - there must be criminal charges to bring forth.
Until you can post what the 'CRIMINAL CHARGE' would be, then I think you should drop your baseless 'impeachment' rhetoric.

8. YOU are the one that keeps saying that Obama can be impeached. |
|
If you can't produce an actual LAW that would be broken then your argument is moot.
The GOP can NOT impeach a president if the president has not committed a 'criminal offense'.

5. No impeachment can be made on anything. |
|
Most of the impeachment charges by the House Judiciary Committee against Nixon were not criminal.

16. The charges at that time were 'lying under oath', which WAS a criminal offense. |
|
The fact remains that there 'must' be a 'criminal charge' in order to impeach anyone. To impeach - means to bring forth 'criminal charges'.

Because of this amendment, many suggests that Congressional authorization to raise the debt ceiling is not necessary, as not doing so would mean that America defaults on its obligation to pay its debt, thus, going against the 14th amendment of the constitution.
Republicans — who have stood their ground in insisting that raising the debt ceiling is not going to happen — are now scrambling to find a way to defeat section 4 of the 14th amendment.
********Some have suggested an amendment to the 14th amendment and others like Rep. Tim Scott of South Carolina, went even further. He wants to impeach President Obama if the President even thinks about trying to raise the debt ceiling without congress*******.
The South Carolina representative recently told a teaparty audience; “
“This president is looking to usurp congressional oversight to find a way to get it done without us. My position is that is an impeachable act from my perspective.”
There are a lot of things people say, ‘Are you going to impeach the president over that?’ — No. But this? This is catastrophic. This jeopardizes the credibility of our nation if one man can usurp the entire system set up by our founding fathers over something this significant.”

that says WHAT 'criminal charge' there'd be. Only disgruntled GOPers yapping about impeachment.
And if the GOP is talking about 'changing' the 14 amendment - then that there shows that the GOP is afraid that The President CAN use it as it is LAWFULLY.

but that's not the point or the goal-it's to taint him with a scandal. Do you remember in 1998 when every day all day and night MSNBC had at the bottom of their screen: WHITE HOUSE IN CRISIS DAY 379....

I look forward to the House GOP trying to impeach President Obama for preventing the default because of their inability to function. In fact, I dare them. That Kabuki Theater would go over splendidly I think. LOL.

22. So, now you're changing the subject. |
|
The issue we've been debating all along was your obsession with the idea that the GOP will impeach Obama without Obama committing any criminal acts.
Now, as for the NEW subject you wish to talk about - In my opinion, the GOP will back down before the August 2nd deadline, Congress will pass a bipartisan bill and the crisis will be averted. If for some reason it doesn't play out like that then President Obama would still have the option to LEGALLY invoke the 14th amendment under his 'emergency powers' and the bills would be paid on time.

20. I'd say you've gone a bit too far out on the limb on this. |
|
Remember how nicely impeachment worked out for the GOP in the 1990s? LOL.
I've read a lot of support for using the 14th Amendment to avoid default. If push comes to shove, President Obama should seriously consider this to prevent the country from going into default. If the GOP complains, let the courts sort it out.

23. The question is, Have you read a lot of the argument against using the 14th Amendment? |
|
It's easy to find support if that's what you're after. You get the right definitions, the right snippets of text, the right arguments made in a vacuum.
What's harder is to subject the support to counterarguments and see if it's made out of plasticine or construction steel. To see if there is competing text that provides context, valid counterarguments, definitions that are sounder and better established but which undermine the claims.
The way I see it, there's no need to use the 14th Amendment to avoid default. Revenues exceed debt payments; any debt redeemed can be reissued. What's needed is to avoid very nasty cuts to services. While the 14th Amendment very nicely mentions debts, it also mentions obligations. The debt can't be questioned; no mention of questioning obligations.
