The only way that the McConnell plan can pass is if the GOP believes Obama does NOT want it |
|
They are not bargaining in good faith.
They will not vote for any plan that they perceive will be a victory for Obama.
The only way that the House can drum up enough votes for the McConnell plan is if the GOP nutbags in the House believe that Obama does *NOT* want the McConnell plan.
That's what idiots like Jane Hamsher don't understand when they rail against Obama for not getting behind the McConnell plan.
The minute Obama announces support for the McConnell plan, it is D.O.A.
Look at GOP reaction to Obama vocalizing support for the Gang of Six plan. The minute Obama came out in support of it, Republicans ran screaming from it.
Obama has finally come to understand the type of ju-jitsu he has to play to get anything accomplished with the reality of a rabid nutjob controlled House.
If he wants it done, he has to use reverse-psychology on these cretins.
They have to think they're handing him a poison pill. Right now, McConnell thinks he is offering up something that is bitter medicine for Obama.
What McConnell (and Jane Hamsher and other idiots) don't understand is that the McConnell plan is pretty damn close to what Obama has wanted all along... a "clean" vote on the debt ceiling.

1. The McConnell plan calls for a Balanced Budget Amendment which will NEVER pass. |
|
The Democrats have come out and said there isn't enough time for a compromise package, almost certainly at an impasse because of the quest for revenue increases, and that may give the Congress another opportunity to raise the debt ceiling via a clean vote. The fact that that's what Pres Obama asked for in the first place would make that particular resolution delicious. Fingers crossed.

3. Agreed, the McConnel plan sounds like the most likely to pass as long as the teabaggers think.. |
|
they are screwing the Dems. I suppose forcing a vote every time a new debt ceiling is requested by the President can be seen as a victory for the GOPers/teabaggers but I dont think the Dems are all that worried about it. Most voters dont really understand or care about the debt ceiling.

5. Not sure if I can jump on this wagon |
|
although I hope you are right, I have serious reservations that the teabaggers would provide Obama with the power to raise the ceiling. Also if they don't then the only thing left to play would be the 14th amendment which likely would create complete chaos.

6. I think this may only need to be good enough to provide political cover for the GOPers.. |
|
who dont want a default but are afraid to cross the teabaggers. The hardcore baggers wont vote for anything that lets Obama off the hook. But their votes may not be needed if enough moderate GOPers go for it.
