Report: Obama top recipient of News Corp. donations
Political donations by News Corp., its employees and their families were evenly split between Democrats and Republicans, with President Obama the all-time leading recipient, according to a report from the Sunlight Foundation.

The transparency watchdog noted Tuesday that Democrats received 51 percent of contributions while Republicans received 49 percent, despite the firm's highly publicized links to the GOP, such as a $1 million donation to the Republican Governors Association in August.

News Corp. is the parent company of The Wall Street Journal, the New York Post and Fox News, among others. The firm is currently under scrutiny in both the U.S. and U.K. over allegations its subsidiary News of the World hacked into voice mail accounts and bribed public officials.

"Obama being listed as the company’s top recipient might surprise some people because of its highly publicized involvement with his political rivals, like Sarah Palin who was the vice presidential candidate in 2008 and reportedly still under contract with Murdoch-owned Fox News as a paid commentator," wrote Sunlight's Ryan Sibley.

4. right, not exactly news.
GEPAC, for example, has been betting on both horses in every race. I was just checking them out the other day. News Corp is no different.

2. You can always
tell when the GOP/MSM are desperate, they roll out the evidence to show that Demcorats are more bought off than Republicans. I suppose Fox secretly hates Republicans and loves Democrats. It's no wonder they go so easy on Democrats.

From the Sunlight Foundation:

<...>

The biggest all-time recipient of contributions from News Corp is President Obama. It should be noted that the totals for News Corp’s contributions also include money from employees of the organization and their family members. Obama being listed as the company’s top recipient might surprise some people because of its highly publicized involvement with his political rivals, like Sarah Palin who was the vice presidential candidate in 2008 and reportedly still under contract with Murdoch-owned Fox News as a paid commentator.

<...>

News Corp is a huge organization, employing a lot of people. Some of them are Democrats. Obama raised a lot of money during his campaign, a lot more than everyone else.

I suppose having raised a little more than $368,000 from Fox employees (likely including his run for Senate), out of more than $700 million for his Presidential campaign, is suppose to indicate something sinister!!!

Ludicrous.

7. First, News Corp. itself didn't give to Obama. Second, the more relevant information
is what News Corp. executives did.

With respect to my first point, direct corporate donations to presidential candidates was not allowed in 2008. To the extent News Corp.'s PAC gave money, none of it went to Obama, who wasn't taking PAC money.

With respect to my second point, of the twelve individuals identified by News Corp on its website as members of its executive team, only one gave any money to Obama during the 2008 cycle. That contribution represented less than 12 percent of the contributions from News Corp.'s executive team to 2008 presidential candidates. McCain was on the receiving end of nearly 50 percent. (Hillary and Mitt Romney split the rest). And that's not including family member contributions. If you throw in the money that Wendi Murdoch contributed, McCain's share grows and Obama's shrinks.

The fact that a lot of non-executive employees of News Corp. and their families (a huge and extremely diverse group) were supportive of Obama is far less relevant than the fact that Obama had virtually no supporters among the News Corp. executives.
