that was just amazing. I believe we just saw the person that has been working for us since he was elected. I know many of you on here want more from him, but I think he really just summed up his philosophy as president when he talked about having to compromise and give in to some things to just get something moving forward. I sincerely hope this is a new day for this administration and that Obama is just going to move forward without trying to compromise any more. It might mean a defeat of sorts for him, but in the long run, he might feel differently. I 100 percent believe that he does think about the people struggling in our society, every single day. I have not always agreed with his tactics, but perhaps this presser was a signal that his tactics are going to start to change.

5. President Obama was fired up, and this is the type of leader this country needs... |
|
making difficult decisions and/or compromises for the good of the country is what's needed to help get us back on track regardless whether or not this would hurt his presidency in 2012. Was he playing a game of chess during this entire debate? I'm not sure, but even though I wasn't happy with the "Gang Of Six" plan, I understood why it had to be done if it had come to that. The G"NO"P is a despicable bunch of hypocrites, and they proved it today.

where's the focus on the lack of jobs and unemployment from Washington?
Other than chanting to the Confidence Fairy, that is.
Yet you proudly love peas, enough so that in the what, week or two since Big Brother's chided us, you've been able to write over 1000 posts;
AND to boldly denote ownership over at least some parts of DU so you feel fully justified in telling other members to "just go away!"!
Wow. Just... wow.

26. He will continue to try to compromise |
|
and I do not meanit as a criticism. Not only I think that trying to reach a consensus is part of his DNA, but in a roughly 50-50 divided country, or probably close to 20% to the right, 20% to the left, and the rest soemwhere in the middle, compromise is the right thing to do. The how and how much depends of course on the situation, but he is not only the president of those active dems and liberals that worked for him during the election, and not even only the president of the ones that voted for him.
And to possible replies along the lines that he represents republicans and the right better than he represents "us", my advance reply is hogwash.

28. This says it as succinctly as I can possibly imagine... |
|
"I 100 percent believe that he does think about the people struggling in our society, every single day."
As do I. DU, OTOH, seems to be in general agreement that he's some ringer or other. There is not a bone within my body that questions his character as a decent man trying to do a difficult job in difficult times who honestly does care for the people of this country. We may disagree on his tactics and methods, but there isn't a doubt in my mind that he does care.

34. Why is it hard to get that it is two sided? |
|
The House Republicans are compromising also. Yet do they get so much yelling at that they sold out from the Tea Party?
No compromise, with a Republican House, means nothing happens. How can people (some of whom claim credit for staying home in 2010) think that a no compromise position while work with a republican house. It would be fine if nothing would happen, except for this default problem.
People asked for this by letting the Republicans have the House. They can't blame Obama for compromising. They should be glad we get out of it without worse.
