If you don't want cuts to SS, Medicare and Medicaid, you need to contact your congressperson |
|
It's smart to contact the White House, but we may actually have a better shot at convincing our own congresspeople that the cuts are a bad idea than we have the President.

1. I agree. Even the Republican ones (although they wont listen) |
|
Especially our Senators.
It is also important to give the ones who are already dead set against the cuts a message of support.

2. The republican ones definitely need to be inundated |

with demands to leave SS and Medicare alone.

3. Wouldn't it be better to know where the cuts are coming from first? |
|
Everybody's getting their dander up over the cuts without even questioning where they're coming from. IS it administration costs, fraud elimination measures, are they raising eligibility ages, cutting benefits? If you don't know the origin of the cuts how can you blanketly be against them? But, typical of a lot of people here, they start crying before they know what they're crying about. Then when they find out it's not what they thought, it's all "I read where they were doing this or that and that's what I based my opposition on." You're not doing yourself or anyone else any good by complaining before you know what you're complaining about! That's like bitchin about a steak being over-done before they even bring it to you.

People have such a thing about the President - it does not seem to occur to them to call R congresscritters and at least let them know they'll be out on their ass next time. Instead of threatening to primary Obama, people should be threatening to vote out their Republican congresscritters. Calling them and telling them if they don't vote to raise the debt ceiling, their job will be re-thought.

9. I've been posting where cuts have been offered |
|
Would you prefer a bad cut to become law or to get on the fast track for passage in part because you prefer to wait until all the cuts are a done deal?
And you talking like we don't know anything... We know what's been offered. That you don't know is only indicative of your not bothering to find out.

13. No. We need to be steadfast from the outset about what is off limits. |

Not wait until we've lost it to whine.

16. That's not really relevant to the goal of expressing the public will |
|
Yes, the whiny histrionics here are stupid, but until we have clear confirmation that SS and Medicare benefits are not going to be touched under any circumstances, it's perfectly reasonable to contact our elected officials to make sure they understand that the electorate will not tolerate cuts to these benefits. What's wrong with a letter saying that one supports reduction of administrative costs and fraud elimination measures but is categorically against benefit cuts?
If the cook has a track record of overcooking the steak, then the best time to say something about it is before it gets put on the grill, yeah?

Obama doesn't want to cut anything and wants to raise taxes. Republican congresscritters are the problem. If people have one, they should be calling them and caterwauling about primarying them or voting Democratic next time. I wonder how many know who their congressperson is and that person's position on this issue.
