13. We need to do a better job explaining to the country why a balanced budget is a horrible idea |
|
They are pushing the false equivalency of a household to make many feel this is a no-brainer. However, EVEN in a household the fact is that there are years when a family "runs a deficit".
If a family member buys a car, taking out an auto loan, that is deficit spending, with the borrowed amount being added to the family debt. How about a mortgage - same thing, in that year, they ran a deficit and greatly increased their debt. Kid going to college and he/she takes out a student loan - more deficit spending. Roof leaking and they take out a credit line? deficit spending.
The key is if the debt is low enough that the family can cover its normal expenses and pay all their interest payments. There are some in both parties that are concerned that the level is too high. Now, in the families case, there are two possible responses - earn more or spend less. Note that as soon as you do either and start lowering what is borrowed, the interest costs go down.

7. Boehner's "plan" is a fake. He is really after default. It's silly to believe that he is sincere |

14. I think Boehner can afford to lose 38 Repubs if he agrees to a plan House Dems will support. |
