Obama, Boehner to address nation tonight on looming default crisis

WASHINGTON--In dramatic developments, President Obama added an address to the nation tonight at 9 p.m. est to his Monday schedule as an Aug. 2 default looms. House Speaker John Boehner (R-Ohio) will follow with his own speech after Obama's remarks.

13. Since when does the Speaker of the House "address the nation"?
As a member of the House, Boehner represents his district. As Speaker, he presides over the House.

The president represents the whole nation, so it is appropriate for him to address the country.
