Seriously, the world will go on if the bill dies.

Sarah Palin being elected President is more dependent on what happens in 2011 than what happens in 2010. A GOP congress actually would help the President's re-election chances. It would give him a foil to run against other than Tea Baggers and Howard Dean.

Why? Because to them Obama is a failure. This is far from fear mongering but a possible truth.

that you're trying to blame the left for not quietly eating the shit sandwich
they're being served instead of the people serving them the shit sandwich.
my situation is the exact same as it was 2 years ago. i'm underemployed i have no health insurance and on any given day i'm a month behind on my mortgage.
i'm not expecting obama to wave a magic wand and fix it...but that change meme he ran at this point looks like bullshit. like i said things for me are exactly the same.
the only thing i expected out him his first term was meaningful hcr.
it looks like that's off the table now.

And re:

Weeks ago, the Republican party was said to be all but dead.

Said by whom?

In November '08 the 'pukes were all but dead, sure. Unfortunately they were rescued and revived by a White House that put the notion of 'bipartisanship' above bold, progressive leadership.

Such promise, such opportunity squandered.

And your simple-minded whining and half-veiled threats to genuine liberals who dare to lament lost opportunities... well, it's worse than pointless. It's poisonous, deranged, alienating.

Not to mention absurd.

and your fear mongering. Maybe when the election comes around you can tell all voters out there for Obama to vote for him or else.... fill in the blank. See how far you get with that attitude. I'm sure Obama will applaud you for your attempt in blackmailing voters... you learned well from the corporate side of the Democratic Party, the disease that exists in both parties today.

I'm not miserable, I am quite the opposite because I can think for myself and I don't let people like you try to guilt me into doing what you want me to do. As I said, good luck getting folks to vote for him again, you'll need it lots of it.

"Palin wins"...

you can envision all the negative possibilities, but one thing will not change the simple fact that people get elected or not based on how they operated while in office. Some do not, but today things are just too bad to accept the lowering of any bar. People have had enough, and envisioning a Palin win will be the dems own fault because they failed the people, not the other way around.

At least you admit you are extremely supportive of the actions, to say you're not getting your pony because most here are upset with the WH would be tacky at best. And I certainly think you have every right to cheer on the issues as you see them, of course. You wouldn't post OP's if you didn't want conversation. 47. No, he is not a dictator. He is WEAK and INEFFECTIVE. He should be holding
all the cards given the current status of Democratic majorities.

An effective leader would have been able to point out the erring party members what their political careers would be like with support of the White House and WITHOUT support of the White House. Then, the erring ones could make up their own minds which path they want to take.

In other words, support me in my policies and I won't support your primary challenger with all the resources at my disposal.

An effective leader helps those whom he is leading see things from other perspectives. Then, the choice is theirs.

Done properly, the erring ones start seeing things from a better point of view, one that is consistent with the direction of the administration.

73. Leadership has EVERYTHING to do with it.
When you give away the farm on the things that you can win...

Banking reforms, credit card reforms.

How can you effectively bargain on the more difficult items?

These are items where it would have been easy to rally the American people behind him and forced senators to do their job.. but he didn't. Getting "bi-partisan" support was SOOO important that he allowed the "credit card reform" to become completely toothless. He allowed banking and wall street reforms to become MEANINGLESS and actually set up a situation where they can repeat the same mistakes of the past with no consequences.

Now, the threats are empty, the posturing pointless.

Heck, they threw the public option under the bus months ago when they stated it wasn't critical to the legislation.

bush was an evil idiot or a misguided fool, take your pick, but whatever he was, he was able to get a war resolution with 0 evidence of a threat through a democratic controlled sentate. They did whatever they needed to get votes for the items they believed in and they got it done, over and over and over and over again and when it looked like they might not get their way, nuclear option was on the table... destroy the fillibuster, it didn't matter.

Obama has shown NONE of the moxi necessary to lead. Even with a heavily democratically controlled house and Senate he has been completely ineffective on the issues that matter.

THAT is poor leadership!

75. There is nothing President Obama could have done to
change the grandstanding and obstruction that has taken place over these past weeks. That has NOTHING to do with leadership. Put the blame where it belongs. Lieberman, Stupak, Nelson, and the republicans, just to name a few. Making this his fault is hysterical and shows you have no grasp of politics or the legislative process.

All you did was identify issues with which you are dissatisfied and said he's supposed to LEAD. That's not an answer. That's a snide retort.

85. You need to recognize the actual problem
If the Liebermans, Stupaks and Nelsons actually RESPECTED Obama as a leader, we wouldn't have these problems.

So, Mr. or Mrs. "There was nothing poor wittle Obama could have done"... how did bush get just about everything he wanted WITHOUT a huge majority in the Senate? How were the republicans able to get anti-war seantors to vote for their war? How did they get their idiotic tax cut program through without a huge majority?

No wonder this party is so ineffective, the cheerleaders don't even have a clue how to win.

"It's all right, it's okay, you couldn't do it anyway"

91. Yes, he could be just as corrupt as Bush and I don't
Edited on Sat Dec-19-09 05:13 PM by Fire1
know about you but I voted for a man who wants to change that kind of politics in Washington. Like most people you mistake kindness for weakness and also typical that you don't realize effective change in politics takes compromise. The "problem" is who is elected and sent to congress. THAT'S the problem! You want progressive change, then send more progressives to the house and senate.

And held down.

The current bill does nothing to do that.
In fact, it hand the medical and insurance
industries a blank check...

60. I'm sick and tired of this hyperbole
Why is that that the Cheerleaders are starting to freak out. I'm not attacking you, I'm not attacking the President I like the guy personally, he was my senator for 4 years and I knew of him back when he was in Springfield. the whole meme that he has more information and knows better what he is doing might have been true 50 years ago. however, the electorate is now totally plugged in and can often have information at their fingertips faster than POTUS. so in your mind it's ok to criticize one party but not the other? I'm an equal opportunity person myself if someone mucks up I'm going to call them out

How can you suggest that there are any Democrats dumb enough to bring about what you say? That would be like saying they would rather lose and lose big than win small. Please. They may be loud emoters with strong emotional emotions, but they aren't dumb.

I hope.

80. Nothing is impossible......
cause I'm sure a headline saying "First Black candidate won" would have been laugthed about out loud here at DU 3 years before it happened. In fact, a lot of folks wouldn't even back him, cause they didn't think the country was ready.

I know about unintended consequences....I've lived them.
Why do you think so many stayed home or voted Nader instead of Gore?
You'd think that there would never be a headline where you were told "the Supreme Court has stopped the vote count, and awarded the Presidency to Bush" either.

I'm tired of these things that could happen being taken as fearmongering.
That's not what they are. They are just things people would not rather think about,
unless they have to. That ain't the same thing.

89. Calling "crap" HCR to promote Dems chances in the next election is dishonest.
Dems were not voted into office to look good. They were voted in to represent the voters. Voters want real health care reform.

I am still and will always be a Democrat. Are the so called Democrats in DC these days really, truly Democrats?

90. Yours are vague pronouncements.
You are against something, and probably don't really have all of the facts as to why.
Sounds like you would prefer to remain with the status quo, like the Republicans would.
They are scared shitless of this bill; the Republicans. I wonder why?
Maybe you could answer, since you appear to be so as well.
