IF Social Security goes unscathed......
despite the mounting pressure, can we all at least agree it would be a huge victory for the Obama Administration? From my view, this could be a major turning point for the country, and while some would ask me to temper my enthusiasm, I reserve the right to believe in some hope and change. Change in democracies are methodical, and slow, which is why Tea Baggers less than a year into "power" are already frustrated and throwing childish tantrums. They clearly don't understand the spirit of the founding fathers, as government is designed to be methodical to slow down shifts of power unlike a business.

Anyways, if I was to grade the Obama Administration as of right now, they would be in the C+ range taking into consideration all they have, and haven't accomplished. Basically an average performance by this administration, naturally not the worst or the best though compared to other administrations in U.S. history. But, if social security avoids the axe, I would definitely bump the Obama Administration's grade to B+. ;)

1. If Social Security goes unscathed,
I don't know how you can credit Obama

as he was the first one to put offer it for cuts

as part of his "grand bargain", remember?

2. What will ultimately matter is when the dust settles
if you choose to be offended Obama put it on the table at some point, and I will not belittle anyone that feels betrayed. But, most people remember the beginning and the end of a story, and vary rarely the middle.

6. Whatever happens, he will be remembered for offering up SS & Medicare, and not favorably, IMO

4. I can't agree that it would be a huge victory for the Obama
Administration. He's the one who put it on the fucking table.

5. Hell no.

This whole debacle has cemented the Republican narrative in Washington, and if they don't push through this crap now, they will be back sooner than you can open a can of peas to continue the job.

We are in a much more perilous place now as a result of his having sold us out and put SS, Medicare, and Medicaid on the table.

He betrayed us, poisoned the Democratic brand, and immeasurably strengthened the corporate/Republican position, and this is not the end of this assault on the 95 percent...not by a long shot.

7. Doubtful. For some, the new mantra will now be
"But he WANTED to slash Social Security and Medicare!"

14. Linking to your own post as a "source"?

Paul Ryan and the House Republicans want to to destroy SS and Medicare.

15. I notice you ignore the other two links, conveniently.

My link talks about what Obama and other Democrats have been doing and saying, on record.

And of course the Republicans do. If they didn't, the President would not find it so easy to beg for his own draconian cuts and claim to be the "moderate" here.

Obama could turn water into wine and some will think it's a cheap wine and just not good enough to drink.

11. No, but I would consider it a miracle that they didn't take
him up on his offer. BTW, they're already using it against him. Marsha Blackburn was on MSNBC the other night screeching that Obama wants to kill SS and medicare, not the republicans, that they're the ones trying to save it.

12. a huge victory for the Obama administration maybe
a huge defeat for the poor and working class, no question about it. The best scenarios I've heard have sounded utterly disastrous, even without entitlement cuts.

The one way I can see to avoid that would be vetoing anything with spending cuts, and then using the 14th amendment to prevent default. I can't see Obama going that route, and the GOP would grab one of the offers on the table before it got to that point. But who knows? People are talking about it, maybe it's a possibility.
