Rick Perry: “Obviously gay marriage is not fine with me…” Supports federal marriage amendment.
Texas Gov. Rick Perry: “Obviously gay marriage is not fine with me…”
by FRC Press Office
July 28, 2011

Last week in Aspen, Colorado, Gov. Rick Perry of Texas addressed New York’s new same-sex marriage law by saying “That’s New York, and that’s their business, and that’s fine with me…”

In his first interview on the issue since making those comments, Gov. Perry spoke with Family Research Council President Tony Perkins today to addresses the Aspen remarks, discuss the 10th Amendment’s application to marriage, and his support for a federal marriage amendment.

Gov. Perry commented:

“I probably needed to add a few words after that ‘it’s fine with me,’ and that it’s fine with me that a state is using their sovereign rights to decide an issue. Obviously gay marriage is not fine with me. My stance hasn’t changed.”

Obama believes marriage is between and man and a woman. Rick Perry feels the same way.

4. You're dead wrong and you know it.

...Unless you can show me where Obama has come out in favor of a federal marriage amendment. Quite the contrary, in fact. As you know, the Administration has publicly opposed DOMA and pledged to not defend it in court.

While this administration has done more for equality than all other 43 administrations combined, they have not moved fast enough for any of us. That doesn't mean you should make shit up to criticize Obama for.

EDIT: I see you fixed your misleading post. Well played.

6. Even before my edit for grammar, I mentioned nothing about a Federal Amendment
My edit was at 10:15. Your reply to me was at 10:20.

Nice try :hi:

7. Uh huh...
Right.

So you still maintain that Obama and Perry share the same position on gay marriage? Brilliant.

8. Yes. They both believe marriage is between a man and a woman.

10. Yes, they sure are.

So I guess the whole issue is a wash in the 2012 election. Equal rights would be the same in 2016 regardless of whether it's Obama or Perry in the Oval for four years.

Please stop digging. Cheers anyway! :hi:

14. Not necessarily
I agree with you that, overall, Obama is better than any Republican would be when it comes to LGBT rights. DADT is a good example of that.

But when it comes to the specific issue of marriage, they believe a marriage should only be between a man and a woman.

16. On that, we totally agree.
It's really a shame that this President (more than any other) did not get out front on this issue - and proudly support, with vigor, real marriage equality. He should have done that in 2008. He damn well should in 2012.
