We just can't cave in. If you think it's bad now, just wait
when they revisit the debt ceiling 6 months from now. They will know that they can push our "leaders" around and it will be twice as bad. Might as well start negotiations now for the next battle. Our guys had better stand firm now.

2. I love Obama but sadly he missed
an opportunity to strike the populous message on this. And they are paying the price for it.

5. what need was there for a populous...
message on this...the damn country is behind Obama by ever poll and by wide margins! People here cannot bring themselves to realize that Obama and the dems in congress are dealing with a political party that does not give a fuck about the people and is more than willing to run the country off a cliff so that they can reclaim power, especially the WH in 2012....Obama as president can never let that happen even if it means having to compromise because he cannot allow the country to go off a cliff....I know I know, Obama is king and so the fact that repubs are obstructionist should not get in the way of Obama passing 100% pure progressive legislation...that's the thinking at DU and the PL.

3. The budget is coming up soon
We need to stand strong and let them shut down the government if they want. People need to understand the consequences of electing Republicans.

Most of the public won't think things were really bad in this debt ceiling fight because it didn't affect them.

6. It Will Affect Them (i.e. Us)
Eric Cantor will have a big payday from his Proshares Ultrashort ETF.
His backers will have gone short too, of course.
That is not "Wall Street" as a whole.

The teabaggers answer to a much smaller group than that.
It might be only the Koch brothers!

9. Agreed - but...
...Obama doesn't seem to have the backbone to play real hardball with anyone (except the "professional left," of course). The dems in general can't seem to speak in one voice (not that the repukes are doing well at the moment, either), and they are too prone to adopt conservative frames to be trusted to deliver that voice effectively. Given all of this, I'm afraid the real question is whether we'll lose now or whether we'll lose later. I hope I'm wrong.
