How much more than ever am I appreciating Nancy Pelosi today? |
|
John Boehner's ham-handed, incompetent performance over the past few days makes me SO grateful that we had Nancy Pelosi as Speaker for as long as we did. And it makes her incredible competence, savvy, grace, skill and effectiveness even more obvious than ever.
During some very difficult times, Speaker Pelosi managed to move her caucus in the right direction by listening to their concerns, applying pressure where and when needed and finding common ground. She didn't yell or threaten or whine. She put legislating above politicking, stood her ground when appropriate and compromised when necessary. She withstood the demands, taunts and then attacks from various factions because she did not stay obstinately wedded to any approach that she knew would ultimately fail, and thus scuttle the larger effort.
In other words, Speaker Pelosi took care of business.
Unlike what we're seeing now ...
So, thank you, Speaker Pelosi, for showing how it's supposed to be done. And I have no doubt that you will very soon have the opportunity to show us again - when "former" is deleted from your title and you, once again, wield the gavel that you used with such dynamism, class and ability.

It's disgusting how much shit she took from Democrats before Boner took over.

5. Yes, if all the legislation she passed in the House |
|
had passed in the Senate, our country would be a lot better off today. She was a great Speaker. Because so much of what she accomplished was lost in the Senate, she does not get the credit, other great Speakers did.

7. she should not have taken impeachment off |

the table. If she had, we would be basking in the glow of her accomplishments because we would have her still.

I dearly wish she would have held those Bush criminals accountable for their violations of our constitution.

entirely lovely. It is difficult for me not to observe that Ms.Pelosi has aged very gracefully, nor can I fail to recall that in her younger days she was a registered hottie. Brains, beauty, lots of backbone, grace under pressure, style and an inextinguishable heart ... Ms. Pelosi's record of accomplishment is indeed amazing (hundreds of bills compared to Boner's dozen or so) ... I am entirely grateful she is on our side.
And it is my hope she will soon hold the speaker's gavel again.

9. What's more interesting is Boehner will not go to Pelosi |
|
will not ask advice, will not attempt to negotiate with her. His Republican upbringing doesn't allow him to do that, so he will bring the whole country down.
Nancy Pelosi is one of my favorites. She knows the rules and she knows how to get things done.

11. Agree - but it's really a shame you can't have a positive post about a Democrat |
|
without folks coming in to piss all over it with complaints about what that Democrat did or didn't to do and why they aren't REALLY worthy of any compliment or praise. This place is becoming one big crab barrel.
Anyway, you are right: once- and future-Speaker Pelosi deserves our appreciation and respect.
