The potential Silver Lining of default
1. Young people who depend on Pell grants etc. will be democrats for LIFE

2. Obama will not endanger his presidency by invoking the 14th Amendment

3. The news media will be forced to place blame properly

4. The American people will have a visceral wake up call about the Republicans/Teaparty

5. The Republicans lose the house in 2012 etc.

Since the only way out of recession is jobs spending and stimulation maybe it doesn't matter as much, except short term, that the economy slips further. The real goal has to be Obama's re-election because if not we'll be giving it ALL, as in the big three and everything else to the crazys who are intent, and pretty good at, destroying our country.

1. There will not be a default.
Reid said he was willing to listen to Republican ideas to make his bill better because time was running short. So the pukes will get what they want. This is the theater of the absurd.

2. I'd say we don't know yet if there will be a default
and it depends on how intransigent the republicans continue to be and the exact demands ... I don't see Obama agreeing to go through a debt ceiling debate again in 6 months.

4. And How Can You Get 291 Votes In The House For A Balanced Budget Amendment*?
When it just goy 218 votes as part of the Boehner bill?

*That's the two thirds of House votes you need to pass a Constitutional amendment.

3. We need Bachmann and every teabag-elected crazy to stand
up and recite on camera "nothin's gunna happen" on Aug. 1st. This would seal their fate. I wouldn't call it a 'silver lining' because many businesses and lives (including mine) will fall apart, but it's the only positive that default would create.

13. Remember when they whined about Medicare? They are intellectually challenged
to say the least.

8. I Don't Think We Know How This Will Play Out
Conventional wisdom suggests the Repubs and Tea Party (redundant) will get the blame.

9. No they won't.
Obama has done/is doing a very, very poor job of messaging. He has confused the general public. He says "revenue" instead of taxes. He has said medicare and SS debt needs to be fixed. They hear that as "cut". Wanting to come across as the nice guy he has shown no indication he is fighting for the middle class. He is one great big compromise wagon. He is not a fighter. He is losing the sound bite war big time.

10. What wake up call?
Was there a wake up call in 1928 Germany? When the loudmouths with the bombastic leader got lots of attention and a few votes? The Tea Party is nothing more than modern day Nazis, ready to get fired up and attack whatever enemy is put in front of them. Substitute "Muslim" for "Jew", "liberal" for "Communist", and the propaganda is instantly updated by 80 years. Don't even have change "trade unionist" at all, since all of Wisconsin's problems are being blamed on public sector unions.

Don't be so sure that Repubs will lose in 2012. We may get an "Enabling Act" of our own in 2013 if some bombastic blowhard moves to the head of their pack and fools enough people to get in.

17. The Red Army would come and save us?
 Since it's been disbanded for 20 years, we would have to form our own.

14. Those would be positives, yes,
but the negatives far outweigh them. We could slip not only back into recession, but into recession, interest rates would skyrocket, our credit rating lowered drastically, we'd be dealing with a pissed off world, especially China, not to mention people will lose jobs. We don't need that.

16. That's What I'm Hoping for
and default isn't even necessary for that to happen -- just a shutdown of some essential government services and delaying some needed payments.
