Just wondering.
We took a big hit from Hurricane Ike.
Will there be enough money to pay for FEMA and Flood Insurance.

Try finding two thirds of Congress for it.

...but an overwhelming majority of the American public claim to support it.
This is something the Republicans wanted for 2 reasons. One, it's a sop to the teabaggers. Two, it forces many Democrats to make what will be a difficult vote going into an election season.

Hurricane season is starting.
I just don't trust the Republicans, not for a second.
It isn't possible to budget for hurricanes.

6. What makes you think it will pass? |

Dems just rejected it in the CCB and the Boehner bill unanimously.

What if a few of the Democrats change their minds and go over to the dark side.
I am not resting easy on this.
It isn't just hurricanes either, no place is safe from mother nature.
You can't run a government like a business, don't work.

8. There's no doubt a balanced budget amendment is both unnecessary and disastrous |

The precedent shows that no Dems will vote for it, period. It doesn't strike me as a deal breaker for this reason. Indeed, the GOP can send a BBA to the Senate any time they want, and over and over again if they want. All this does is assure a simple majority vote on it. It's fairly clear that the Dems are united in opposition since they literally voted it down twice in the last two weeks. I'm not sure why anybody would be scared of this vote in the current Congress. Reid obviously can't speak for the next Congress, so any vote could only apply to this one.
At worst, the vote gets Dems on record opposing it. But they already are! This is, in fact, a major House GOP retreat. Their initial position was that any further increase of the debt ceiling (in six months) would be contingent upon a BBA PASSING both chambers an being sent to the states. From that position, they've fallen back to "A BBA must come up for a vote in the Senate," and removed that as a condition precedent to further debt action. Since it is utterly doomed in this Senate, they've gone from "It must pass for a debt ceiling increase" to the rather pathetic position of "We are separating it from the debt ceiling and simply want to get Dems on record voting against it" (which they already have, twice!).
Doesn't strike me as a big problem.

The carpetbaggers will descend on the communities and buy up all the property for future development in line with their conservative values. The poor and nouveau poor will have to go elsewhere.
