Yippeeeeeeeeeeeeeeee.

What a winning fucking message in an election year.

Unless they have managed to negotiate with the republicans only the tax cuts for the wealthy expire.

hmmmmm... What are the chances of that?

6. Keep up. As always keep middle class tax cuts, raise them on the wealthy.
You really think it's a good message for dems to go out and say all next year how wonderful it is that the middle class tax cuts are going to expire?

13. Honestly, they should never have been cut to begin with, for anybody.
Edited on Sun Jul-31-11 11:07 AM by TwilightGardener
But we have seen that Repubs will never allow them to be separated--either they go on in perpetuity or they expire for everybody.

8. They have to expire NOW or they're not going anywhere in 2013
Never give up a sure thing for a mere possibility. Promises on Capitol Hill get broken as often as hearts in a whorehouse.

things could play right into the hands of the Dems. So if we come out of this debt deal now like it seems to be playing out its a pretty good deal - right?

20. Nothing has changed far as I can tell. Seems fine to me
There is a sunset clause on Bush tax cuts, they all automatically expire. Same as before, the original expiration was pushed back in the earlier budget deal to 2913. Before that Demos had proposed passing new legislation to retain middle class tax cuts and allow those for the wealthy to expire. Republicans opposed, saying all the tax cuts should be permanent.

So now in this election year coming, Dems can campaign in favor of new legislation extending middle class tax cuts only. Let the Repubs oppose middle class tax cut extensions if they want, or let them be blamed for torpedoing them if the wealthy don't get their way.

30. Yes it is
Edited on Sun Jul-31-11 11:56 AM by Tom Rinaldo
And it looked fine last time too and then it went to hell. All true. I'm just saying things are exactly where they were with the Bush tax cuts now as we were when Obama got elected, except the budget deal extension pushed expiration of them back to 2013.

I would only add that this is the exact same scenario we always had from the moment the Bush tax cuts first passed. Nothing has changed since then except for the temporary two year extension agreed to in the last budget deal.

23. good, let them all expire. personally, i can afford to pay more
Edited on Sun Jul-31-11 11:31 AM by ellenfl
in taxes. if i lose my job, my taxes will be a lot less anyway, so paying a little more now, to get more $ from the super wealthy, is ok by me. then pres obama can offer a new middle class tax cut. i don't believe that republicans will vote against a tax cut that excludes the super wealthy unless they want to be in a permanent minority.

how many of us are middle class anymore anyway? let them all expire. i can only hope that some of the increased revenue will help the unemployed and the poor. we've helped the poor rich enough.

28. Not surprised at all...
Once again, many are trying to take both sides of the expiring tax cuts argument, where Obama ends up the villain with either decision. Same thing happened back in 2010. Message control really sucks on this particular subject.

33. Bush cuts for the rich are only $700 billion of $3.8 trillion.
Edited on Sun Jul-31-11 12:53 PM by dkf
We need all that revenue or did you want to cut all that more spending?

We never could afford those cuts. Not a single dime.
