House Democrats might not back debt deal: Pelosi
WASHINGTON | Sun Jul 31, 2011 6:34pm EDT

(Reuters) - Democrats in the House of Representatives might decide not to support a last-minute deal to raise the debt ceiling when they meet on Monday, House Democratic Leader Nancy Pelosi said on Sunday.

"We all may not be able to support it, or none us may be able to support it," Pelosi told reporters.

11. When I couldn't get through, I sent him
an email (see below). I'll phone again in the morning.

The president has mishandled this debt ceiling business from the gitgo. Putting Social Security and Medicare on the table was beyond stupid. And now we learn that in order for this pernicious raid on the social safety net to succede, Democrats are going to have to vote for it, while the Teahadists get to preen their ideological purity. If you vote for it you will rue it in 2012. Your vote will be used to beat you over the head. The president is pissing away his re-election chances. Don't follow his lead. Vote to reject this hairball of a deal.

10. I am not sure we can call letting the booosh tax cuts go the way they
are supposed to go anyhow a tax increase. It is one we already had before this deal. So we get nothing new in the way of taxes.

5. I seriously doubt Nancy will sign off on that. It takes just one house of congress to shut it down.

6. what do you think the chance are
that the super-committee being set up won't recommend changes in social security, medicare, and medicaid in November? Honest question, because I believe the chances of them not recommending "entitlement reform" are exactly zero.
