Let's tell President Obama we need to have a chat!
I just completed a post to the President on the white house contact page at http://www.whitehouse.gov/CONTACT/
I'm encouraging each and every one of you do to the same thing right away.

In my post, which I fashioned as an email to the President entitled Dear Mr. President:,
I mentioned a lot of the things we're discussing here on DU and the fact that many liberals/progressives
appear to be losing faith. I suggested that he needs to arrange some sort of "fireside chat" like yesterday.
I went on to mention it could possibly be done with MoveOn-type house parties with a webcast or conference call
or something of this nature, but it needs to be very inclusive and be widely viewed.
It doesn't have to involve MoveOn, that's just an example.

If you have participated in any of these type of gatherings, they really can be moving-no pun intended.
During the 2004 Presidential campaign, I was organizing for Gen. Wesley Clark, and we held one of these house parties
at a supporter's house on Marco Island. We were fortunate enough to have Sen. George McGovern join us, and as it worked
out he was a savior, because Gen. Clark had laryngitis, and Sen. McGovern covered for him. I mention this mainly because
I believe in a few thousand households that night people were gathered around a phone or computer and they felt a part of something.
Right now, I don't believe a lot of the people who helped to elect Obama feel very much togetherness, and if we're going to
continue the momentum we gained in the last election, we need to do something to bring things back together.
We also have to feel that he is listening and cares about our concerns.

An alternative to this would be a Presidential address, similar to Carter's fireside chats, because it needs to be less formal than the usual jacket/tie and fifty American flags TV setup. He needs to talk to us, like one of us, and remind us again about the change we can believe in.

Now, some people here are of the opinion that Obama doesn't care. If you're one of them, that's your right, and
this post isn't for you. If you're like me, you believe that President Obama really does support our causes and really does want
to bring about the change and dreams we all worked and sweated for during the election.

So take a few minutes and send a post to the white house. Sure, it might be read by a 16-yr old intern and never get closer than
cyberspace to the President, but imagine if 15,000 DU users did this over the next few days, or even 5,000. Somehow that would
raise some eyebrows, and they'd have to at least wonder who the heck is jamming up the inbox.

So go ahead, tell the President we need to have a chat and let him know what you're thinking about. It made me feel better anyway.
