4. I don't think we're there yet
but considering the relatively meteoric rise of the American Empire compared to how long it took the Romans to put theirs together, our decline & fall could very well occur at a swifter pace as well.

8. Same here
Part of me keeps following these sorts of discussions, hoping against hope that we can still turn things around, but I think it's a real long shot at this point. What worries me most is the amount of damage we're causing to the rest of the world on our way out. At least the Romans didn't have to worry about global climate change and oil spills and other such catastrophes.
