Did the Obama Campaign Lay a Trap for Romney?
Fascinating. I wonder if this is true, if Frum is paranoid, or maybe overthinking it?

Did the Obama Campaign Lay a Trap for Romney?

David Frum wonders if the Obama campaign's coming "ferocious personal assault" on Mitt Romney is actually just "a mind game" to put his campaign off track.

"Now here's the other way that a Republican presidential campaign can go wrong. It can allow itself to be swayed by the rage and contempt for Obama that have consumed the conservative media world. It can be infiltrated by the emotions that Rush Limbaugh and so many other Republican talkers and authors have so successfully micro-targeted. It can forget that most potential anti-Obama voters see Obama as a disappointment, not a menace. It can snarl and sneer and vilify."

"We have seen that behavior in other campaigns, but not so far in Romney's. Could it be that Axelrod and the others leaked a phony battle plan to Politico in order to goad Romney into exactly the mistakes he has so far avoided?"

1. Obama's people are very good at politics
Obama was always good at under the radar nastiness. And no one is going to notice a "battle plan", especially this far in advance.

2. If the are so great at Politcs, they have not served this Presidnt
well at all. He is beginning to be seen as a wak
leader and when the Pundits begin the Jimmy Carter
comparison, it is over.

3. They've been compared him to Carter after his first 90 days in office.
There's a public image the media wants to sell and they're not varying from their story.

5. Right
the corporate media has been "catapulting the propaganda" for the right 24-7-365 right from the start, of course! They've got an agenda and they're sticking to it- and it doesn't involve anything positive (for Obama).

4. Yes, the MSM pundits are the oracles of truth.
I'm certain no one around here would buy or perpetrate their spin.

7. I don't believe in any of it. Obama isn't the type. He is to much of a professor.

8. Not buying it...
when will politicians learn that the best "campaign strategy" is to serve the public's best interest. It's quite simple, yet so few follow that criteria.

strategy, like the progressives always want them to. The first time I read the Politico story, I knew it was "leaked" on purpose.

If you want to take down your opponent, the element of surprise is key. You don't tell them what you're going to do.

If you want your opponent to "take themselves down," you leak your fake strategy and let them react. Usually badly.

And now we have the media talking about how "weird" Romney is and Obama doesn't have to do a thing.

No brainer.

11. "Ferocious personal assault"?
It'll be nothing compared to the stupid and racist attacks on Obama.
