Why are people so upset with Obama? He's doing EXACTLY what he always said he'd do
Edited on Sat Dec-19-09 02:35 PM by Clintonista2
He made it very clear when he was running for office that he would be reaching across the aisle, compromising, bringing people together. DU thought this was the greatest thing in the world at the time. What did you expect him to compromise on?

Edit: For the record, I do not approve of compromising with those people.

1. He is compromising away our right to choose.
That is untenable.

2. No, as KO pointed out... there is a big difference from compromise and being compromised. - n/t

3. Who is he bringing together?
Insurance companies and our money?

Wall Street and our money?

At some point, compromise means the other side has to give a little as well. Can you list the things the other side has compromised on in the last year?

Please enlighten us all. Anything they have done is minimal compared to what the left has given up.

4. As I pointed out in another thread, I constantly gave Obama crap for his "reaching out" theme
I didn't want to reach out to them then, and I don't want to reach out to them now.

8. And, I Assume You Got Trashed For It, Too
By the usual suspects.

12. Of course
I've been searching all day for a thread I made during the primaries where I specifically asked if people thought Obama's "reaching out" theme was just a slogan, or if they really thought he would govern with that philosophy in mind. Nearly every single person said they thought it was more than just a campaign slogan, and they were heartily behind such a philosophy. Of course I was trashed for being against "bringing the country together" :eyes:

5. I expected him to keep his word.
He promised us he would not support an individual mandate. He ran this ad against Hillary:

Many of us feel quite betrayed by this "change of position." I should also add that many of us weren't too fond of his "reach across the aisle" philosophy, either.

20. Geez, wouldn't this make Obama a hypocrite if the HCR bill passes with a mandate?
I've largely associated being a hypocrite with the Republican Party in the past.

Thanks for the change, Obama.

21. That's about the size of it, yes. n/t

Kill the bill.

Forcing people to buy insurance is no more the answer to a failed health care system than forcing people to buy houses is the solution to homelessness.

6. One hoped it was just campaign talk
Or at the very least one hoped that once he saw what fascist nuts the GOP had become he would quickly forget about working with them.

7. He's a failure. Realize this. Along with Vickie Kennedy, Sanders, and Kerry.
They're all failures in DU's estimation. Now there are only two truths Kucinich and Dean (one of the more fickle guys I've seen in this debate).

So it's all whatever.

This is said with sarcasm---however noticing the way DU is---it's far from sarcasm for many.

9. I'm more upset
with the Democrats who nominated him than I am with him, for that very reason.

I will point out, though, that all of that "bringing people together" would include the left, if it were authentic.

Instead, he threw the left under the bus very early on. All of that rhetoric was never intended to include many of us.

10. Just because something was expected doesn't make it right.
Just because I'm not surprised in the slightest doesn't mean we should accept it. I wasn't surprised Bush was the biggest clown we've ever had in office, but that doesn't mean I had to say nothing. Many people voted for Obama despite some things, not because of them.

15. He hasn't said he wouldn't sign it if it appeared on his desk
He's just sent his minions to ensure it never gets to his desk in the first place. See... compromise!

22. "doing EXACTLY what he always said he'd do"
Exhibit A:
How many outright lies, distortions, or broken promises can YOU count in this 7 minute clip from the campaign?

YouTube and instant Video makes it really hard to revise history.
