Just Because You See Something Coming Doesn't Mean You Can Stop It |
|
Edited on Fri Sep-02-11 01:28 PM by DemocratSinceBirth
I remember when I was a kid K-Mart was the place to shop to get "stuff cheap" . Then this company called Wal-Mart appeared. I am sure the folks at K-Mart saw Wal-Mart taking away their customers. But they were helpless to stop them. Now, K-Mart is a hollowed out company; a shell of itself.
I remember when I was in college in the late seventies and America was in a funk and folks were souring on the president. I am sure Jimmy Carter saw it. Heck, he gave a speech on the topic.
Which brings us to now...

Lots of events that seemed beyond the president's control and you just knew it wasn't going to end well. God help us if Perry is this generation's Reagan.

13. Well, in some ways, maybe, but there are no lines for gasoline, no acid rain, |

and even with the bullshit, economic woes, and other issues, I think there's more day-to-hope nowadays. The decade and then some following Vietnam was thick with some nasty shit, and even when the economy turned around for the "haves," the have-nots were still not leaping for joy.
OTOH, I rarely saw homeless people before Saint Ronnie. When he cut off the funding for the mental institutions, those poor crazyass people were shoved out in the streets to die. Now no one notices them, they're so common.

It's like a sinking business. The owners see it coming, do everything to avoid it, and yet in the end the business closes it doors.

5. Really? K-mart is a hollowed out company? Where did they get the cash to buy Sears? |
|
K-mart (the company) is doing better than ever.
Faulty assumptions, which brings us to now...

6. By doing to Sears what WalMart is doing to them. |
|
If you think K-Mart is doing better today than it was in 1975, you are delusional.

I hate argument by anecdote but I can literally go into my neighborhood K-Mart and there will be less than twenty shoppers there. I can go to my local Wal-Mart and the place will be packed.

7. K-Mart Is A Joke. It Won't Make It Out Of This Decade (Book It) |
|
Edited on Fri Sep-02-11 02:05 PM by DemocratSinceBirth
Wal Mart's sales were $403 billion in 2010. K-Mart's sales in 2010 were $37 billion.
I assure you when I was a kid in the 70's Wal-Mart wasn't generating ten times as many sales as K-Mart.
I don't even think there was a Wal-Mart outside of Arkansas in 1970.
ON EDIT- I WAS WRONG. K-MART'S REVENUE WAS FIFTEEN BILLION IN 2010. THAT MEANS WAL MART GENERATED NEARLY THIRTY TIMES AS MUCH REVENUE. COMPARING K-MART TO WAL-MART IS LIKE COMPARING THE IDAHO STAMPEDE TO THE LOS ANGELES LAKERS.

He'll get richly rewarded for following orders. The only thing we're useful for is keeping up the pretense that Voting can "change" anything. That's a sick joke, indeed.

16. Doom and gloom this long before an election |

For all people calling Obama "helpless" due to not having 100% of the power and having to share it with Congress and the Courts, this makes the ones with the actual power (the voters) appear to be the helpless ones.
