President Barack Obama is greeted by New Jersey Gov. Chris Christie in Newark, N.J. , as he travels to Paterson, N.J. , to view flood damage caused by Hurricane Irene, Sunday, Sept. 4, 2011.

A photo is worth a thousand words.

Speaking of which....

U.S. President Barack Obama gets a hug from a boy upon his arrival in Newark, New Jersey September 4, 2011. Obama was in New Jersey to tour damage caused by the rain-swollen Passaic River in the aftermath of Hurricane Irene.

Is that the last form of discrimination that is accepted? I wouldn't want Christie as president because of his RW policies, but I couldn't care less about his weight.

24. I think Taft was as bad or worse. During the Gilded Age it was admired.
Now we know how unhealthy it is, and a sign of lack of impulse control or common sense in many people.

I just lately found myself a mere 11 lb over my ideal and decided to IMMEDIATELY take steps to stop the trend. This is basic. Fewer calories in, more calories burned by walking. I consider it a civic duty because I have no medical insurance and would likely burden the taxpayers if I developed and weight-related health issues.

19. Taft was obese.
He weighed more than 290 lbs, and was 5'11".

That picture reminds me of the political cartoons of Boss Tweed. Christie is ripe for caricature.

I don't want to make fun of him for his size, but I have every right to judge him. We have an obesity epidemic in this country. It is especially terrible for our children. Go into any school or summer camp and you will see it. Christie sets a poor example, and I will judge him for that.

For the record, I gained seventy pounds due to a thyroid condition and a doctor who would not listen to me for a long time. She was giving me a medication that had bad side effects, including weight gain. I have made a change and lost thirty-five pounds. It is slow, but I am sticking with it. I know what this feels like. He could do something about himself. If I can do it with the disadvantage of a medical problem, he has little excuse.

In fact, Corzine was hurt by an ad accusing Christie of "pushing his weight around" to avoid a ticket for driving the wrong way on a one way street and hitting someone. With different wording, it should have hurt the overbearing, "rules are not for me" bully.

59. Corzine was the victim
of an anti incumbent wave and the Norcross/Adubato cartel that usually supports Democrats backed Christie because Corzine couldn't be bought. Christie has done their bidding, as they are in the charter school business. Christie's first priority was to go after public education and frame the teachers as thugs raiding the State treasury. He cut something like 600 million from public education. Much of this money is being used to fund charter schools.
Norcross also sells insurance to government entities. New Jersey also has a public option for teacher's health insurance that is working quite well. Norcross' personal stooge who he put in office is Senate president Sweeny who tried to get language into the public option law that would prevent any more teachers from exercising their public option. We are moving closer to corporate feudalism every day.

Edited on Tue Sep-06-11 07:41 PM by karynnj
I know that there were many Democrats in my county that voted against Corzine because he did not give them a reason to vote for him or an explanation of why the property tax rebate for those making over $75,000. The sad thing is that about a year before, Corzine gave a very candid, frank answer to that - in terms of the choices he had because he had to balance the budget - and revenues fell drastically after 2008. Corzine explained that he gave every public school at least as much as the year before and he slightly expanded children's health care. To do that, he needed the millionaire's tax and the elimination of those rebates. This was at a Morris County Democrats open meeting. This was at the time the plan was being announced - and the 2 school board members from my town who were sitting near me were incredibly happy as they were bracing for far worse.

Instead, he ran a negative campaign - supposedly hoping to have the result low voter turn out overall. (Banking on the Democratic GOTV in the cities)

It was only after the election that Christie essentially declared war on the teachers and their unions. Christie was actually the "moderate" Republican in the primary vs Lonigan. Norcross has always been corrupt - and as you said very powerful and a supporter of Democrats.
