POTUS got 247 in the bag
Edited on Wed Sep-07-11 07:48 PM by angee_is_mad
Anyone who is a supporter of the president and support has re-election her is some good information. Haven't been on here for a while cause you know, just because. So if this is a dup accept my apologies. So much doom & gloom out there wanted to bring some sunshine in.
h/t to brwnizofmine on twitter for the link. Please click link was forced to edit this to fit DU standards.

http://www.outsidethebeltway.com/obama-at-majority-disapproval-re-election-likely/?utm_source=feedburner&utm_medium=feed&utm_campaign=Feed%3A+OTB+%28Outside+The+Beltway+|+OTB%29

Meanwhile, the Republicans have their own firewall. Almost any sentient GOP nominee will carry Alabama (9), Alaska (3), Arkansas (6), Idaho (4), Kansas (6), Kentucky (8), Louisiana (8), Mississippi (6), Montana (3), Nebraska (5), North Dakota (3), Oklahoma (7), South Carolina (9), South Dakota (3), Tennessee (11), Utah (6), West Virginia (5) and Wyoming (3). These 18 states have 105 electoral votes.

Republicans therefore are a lock or lead in 24 states for 206 electoral votes, and Democrats have or lead in 19 states for 247 electoral votes.
That’s why seven super-swing states with 85 electors will determine which party gets to the magic number of 270 electoral votes: Colorado (9), Florida (29), Iowa (6), Nevada (6), New Hampshire (4), Ohio (18) and Virginia (13).]

2. no doubt the electoral vote favors Obama.
Only a total economic collapse could change this dynamic.

4. that's why his supporters
need to continue to support him and every other dem on the ticket. The
man needs a congress that WANT to work with him and not against him. That's how a liberal agenda will get past.
We also need to start grooming credible candidates to replace some of these bluedogs who will hold bills hostage in order not to lose the conservative vote.

11. If by "Firebaggers" you mean progressives who've criticized Obama's conservatism, then you're wrong.
I can denounce Obama for caving so often to the GOP and still hope that he gets re-elected. That's perfectly consistent.

You might change "Firebaggers" to "Naderites" -- there's always been a strain in the Nader campaigns of wanting to punish the Democrats, i.e., hoping the Republican would win on the (ridiculous) theory that the Democratic Party would respond by moving to the left.

8. Social Security and Medicare Will be Huge in Florida
Obama has to play the issue correctly so that Republicans get the political blame for attempts to cut those programs.

According to your numbers, Obama could lose all the other swing states as long as he gets Florida.

13. The last paragraph is a very optimistic view of what Sabato is saying
He has 196 in the bag with 51 others that he should win but may not. That isn't 247 in the bag. In 2010 all four of New Mexico, Michigan, Wisconsin, and Pennsylvania voted in GOP governors and all but New Mexico voted in GOP legislatures as well. I surely wouldn't be counting these as sure things. I do think we are favored in them but sure things they ain't.

The idea of being ruled by the Koch brothers through Perry and the GOP is a grim prospect.

Let's hope they don't devise a way to steal it.

18. I truly believe Obama will win Virginia and North Carolina
I believe those states might be somewhat easier than say Ohio. The demographics in those states is tailor made for Obama and it's getting bluer everyday. Their populations are growing and mostly from Hispanics and northerners. And the Obama campaign will play hard for both of those states. They're going to be there until election day. I think Indiana is probably too tough to even bother with.

22. Michigan will go to Obama thanks to saving the auto industry...
The key states where the campaign will concentrate are:

Pennsylvania
Ohio
Florida
North Carolina
Virginia
Wisconsin

If the President wins his firewall states plus two of these states he will be re-elected.
