It seems that a lot of posters at DU are saying that even if the GOP doesn't pass Obama's job
proposals, there will be a silver lining. American voters will see the GOP for the regressive thugs that they are and vote them out of office in November 2012.

Well, that may well be and of course I am hoping for a resounding Democratic victory in the election. We need to take back the House and take back state houses and state legislatures. We can all agree on that.

But heck, if the Dems do win the election they won't take power for another 17 months. We will continue to face Tea Party obstruction in the House until then. And many Americans can't wait for another 17 months. They need help now, not 17 months from now.

How many more people will lose their jobs and benefits during the next 17 months? How many will see their unemployment checks run out before then? How many more union busting bills can GOP controlled legislatures pass in the next 17 months?

If the GOP begins to think that they will lose the next election, watch out. They will do everything they can during the intervening time to do as much harm to the best interests of the American people as they can. And they will know that even if they lose the House the chances are very good that they will retain enough votes in the Senate to mount filibusters anytime they want to since the Dems will have to defend twice as many Senate seats in the next election.

We can't afford to wait until the election. The time for action is now.

1. Assuming one way or the other is guesswork. Pres. Obama needs us to call our Congressmen.
He can't do it alone. Let's see what happens first and give it OUR best shot before jumping to any conclusions.

3. Maybe I am too pessimistic, but I don't see the Tea Party going along with any of this. n/t

2. Of course it is best for action now. However, if the GOP obstructs
for the First Time America will know what Obama plans
to do with support.

In the next election they have a choice and we have a
much better chance of winning the election if the people
can now distinquish between the two parties.
