What's your opinion on Suskind's new book? |
|
I have not read it yet (I plan on it), but from what I've read about it I feel like it portrays Obama as more indecisive than he actually was. Alter's account of Obama's first year seems to be more accurate. He portrayed Obama as a man with a vision for America, but who leaned a little too heavily on his advisors early on. Suskind seems to portray him as completely indecisive, letting Summers and other Clinton-era advisors completely run the show.
I think it's safe to say Obama has changed since then and finally seems to be the strong leader we've all wanted, at least it seems that way from the past two weeks.
What do you think? Who's read it?

2. Finally.....is a judgement call. |
|
I haven't had any doubts about this President being decisive....but you know what they say about death from a thousand cuts.
He's depressed, He's weak, He's a caver, He's indecisive, He's our savior, He's the magic man, and he's this and he's that.....
I'm so fucking bored...why don't we fucking dog out the Republicans every now and then? Just for a millisecond or something?

3. Nobody wants to admit how all of that undercuts their own weak position in the situation. |
|
Yes, we should not follow blindly and promise our votes unconditionally to someone and attack those who refuse to do the same. Yes, we should not criticize blindly and deny our votes unconditionally to someone and attack those who refuse to do the same.
Now, let's get down to figuring out the reality of how at least some of this works! When you want someone to advocate for you, cutting them off at the knees just convinces the opposition that they don't HAVE to do shit for him/you, so the advocate just moves to where there is support.
We DO affect this process.
It's puzzling to me how much the obvious seems to be such a great mystery to so many. I refuse to believe that so many are really that stupid. So what the fuck has been going on? And what will happen next?

4. Obama leans too much on his advisers? |
|
How can that be if a good portion of Obama's advisers are women? Additionally, Suskind along with GOP writers are the only ones who think Obama is not decisive. Even all of the Clinton workers said that Obama is more decisive than Clinton ever was.
I have yet to read the book, but I will. And I can say that this book is getting shot with more holes by the public and even those he interviewed.
