Is it me, or does anyone else see an odd correlation between Obama "criticism" and Nader support?? |
|
Edited on Tue Sep-20-11 11:56 PM by YellowCosmicSun
It's almost like they originate from the same locus.
Can somebody get us that Venn Diagram?

3. An odd correlation? I will describe the situation to you. |
|
Fact: Many DUers are to the left of President Obama.
Fact: Nader is to the left of President Obama.
Natural Conclusion: Some DUers will like Nader more than President Obama.
You're welcome.

23. This site was set up on Inauguration Day 2001, |
|
partly in protest of the stolen election, and partly as a place where progressives could meet and discuss politics without being drowned out by noise from the right wing. A few months later, Skinner was interviewed on C-SPAN about this web site, and he said that he was looking for Democrats and other progressives to join. A lot of us who were politically aware in the '70s and before know what truly progressive Democrats can accomplish, but we don't see anything near that in today's political climate. So, some DU members have become disenchanted with what the current Democrats are doing-- or not doing-- but they still hold on to the ideals that brought them to this site in the first place.

The "blue dogs" (also known as "DINOs"), for example, often vote with the other party. So a lot of people here are really ticked off at that sort of behavior from politicians calling themselves "Democrats".

I'm not. Never have, never will. It's only in the minds of people who feel the need to marginalize and destroy those who don't agree with them 100% of the time that someone who criticizes the President must be a Nader supporter.
Welcome back, by the way.

85. Or Palinville. I read an article on why Palin is losing |
|
support on the right on one of their right-wing blogs recently, and oddly enough, many of them said that her supporters were one of the reasons. They said you cannot even ask a question about her without them coming out of the woodwork and attacking you using stupid talking points etc. like 'so you want Democrats for four more years'! So, they said, it reflected on her and was a big reason why they were not interested in her anymore.
It sounded very familiar. It does so much harm as no one wants to deal with that kind of stupidity when the country is in the state it's in and people have legitimate questions, all dismissed by loyal supporters with comments like the one you responded to. Black and white thinking 'if you don't like Bush, you LOVE Saddam'. I remember thinking back then that we on the Left were above that kind of thing. I was so wrong.

Of course it's a pipe dream, but what they refuse to acknowledge is that 2000-2008 damn near destroyed the country, while the Democratic Party rebounded, and will be a part of this country's body politick forever.
The fact that we haven't become Venezuela yet, pisses them off to no end. :hi:

|
...if the GOP succeed next year. Every time they succeed, the status quo moves further to the right, and a new normal is established. Rome took years to build and five days to burn. I think people would do well to consider that when wondering why progressive, constructive policy is harder to enact than the Grand Old Party's brand of legislation.

people see into things what they want to see. You don't like Nader so you attribute any criticism of Obama to Nader. Nader has always been an advocate. I would never want him to run for President but say what you will, he is a liberal. Just not a Democrat. Bush V Gore. 5 to 4, the only votes that counted.

42. I criticize Obama's anti marriage equality policy because it is |
|
bigoted, wrong headed and based on religious cult nonsense that has no place in the political discourse. Nader, I can not stand. I'm in the arts and most of the votes I can win for a Democrat will come from the Greens and other non Party liberals. In my area in 08, there was a group of 'Green Dog Democrats' for Obama. Greens for Obama. Imagine that. So, I offer that while there are jollies to be had foisting flame bait and hyperbolic nonsense, there are VOTES to be had by taking a higher, more informed approach. So which do you prefer from the Greens and all, votes or derision? Because serving up derision will get you more of that, and lose those votes which I think we need. If you are not winning votes for a candidate, then what is the objective? Jollies over voters? Good luck with that.

My politics are solidly left. I vote Dem in many elections just because it's the only vehicle for my politics, though it's an imperfect vehicle, moves too slow, always needs repair, and it keeps making stops over in Goptown and Conserville against the wishes of its passengers. I voted for Nader in 2000 and yes, i criticize Obama - when he deserves criticism. if he didn't continually kowtow to the right, i wouldn't be criticizing him. It's pretty simple....why the musing and puzzling?

The "odd" correlation is not so odd, if you look at the world in terms larger than blind, unthinking partisanship with no sense of social, political or economic values.

You all whine about people criticizing Obama and talk about the need to support elected Dems, but somehow that never extends to old DK.
