"One Of The Most Anti-Poor People Rules Is The Minimum Wage" - S/B $3/hr according to some in GOP
Thursday morning, Republican businessman and former Senate nominee, Peter Schiffz claimed that the minimum wage was too high and that it affected the young and the poor in a negative way. Schiff even had the nerve to say “One Of The Most Anti-Poor People Rules Is The Minimum Wage.”

SCHIFF: Well, one of the most anti-poor people rules is the minimum wage. It keeps people poor. What the minimum wage does is says that if a person that has very little skills, and generally they’re young or they’re poor, you can’t hire them unless they can produce

KILMEADE: Right. SCHIFF: — $7.25 worth of value, but it’s not just that. It also has to compensate you for all the mandatory benefits and taxes and risks associated with hiring people.

KILMEADE: Right.

SCHIFF: And people that have no skills, it’s not just worth it to hire them

KILMEADE: Peter, I want to get through, too

SCHIFF: — maybe $3 or $4 an hour, if that’s what they’re worth

1. Frenchie, that's a good example of why we should fight Rethugs, not each other.
K&Red, of course. :)

I bet there is no Democrat who would support a $3 -$4 minimum wage. People couldn't feed themselves or have roofs over their heads at uch a low wage.

We see what the republicans are after. This report needs to be EVERY WHERE!

5. When one adds the death penalty, even if innocent,
we've might get back to the 1920s....
which is after all what Republicans want;
when they were supreme in the world,
women could just be pretty homemakers raising large broods,
minorities were not threatening to overtake the majority,
and the poor could just remain as they were....

Oh....What a wonderful world!

16. Many Republicans want to go back even further than 1920's...
Many are calling for the Constitution to be changed so that only the Federal Government is bound to follow the Bill of Rights & states can do as they want...This would allow the states to set up Christian Theocracies & allow states to let corporations pay workers whatever they wanted, work them as long as they wanted, work them in any conditions they wanted & allow corporations to pollute as much as they need to!

The Republicans wet dream is a pre-Civil War America!

The truly SAD thing is many "Democrats" could care less about these very real threats & instead are more concerned about going after President Obama for not doing what they say when they say it. They actually want the republicans to beat Obama as punishment & of course as some odd way of validating them as a force that must be obeyed or else.

And then they wonder how it is Republicans manage to get more of what they want than we do...One has to wonder how many elections we will have to lose before they realize the Republicans have the success they do because they understand the most important aspect of American two party politics...Sticking together & taking what they can a little at a time. Watch, if Romney wins the nomination you won't see the Tea Baggers STAY HOME on election day and they hate Romney as much, if not more, than many on the Left hate Obama!

Oh yeah, THANK-YOU Frenchie for all that you do & especially the info & knowledge you provide to the discussions here on DU!

6. With a maximum wage for CEOs
companies could afford to hire 5 or 6 instead of 1.

7. This Proposal is Based on the Fallacy
that business will pay what an employee is worth rather than what the job market will bear. There is a big difference, especially in a time of high unemployment.

The minimum ought to be about $12/hour, at least in high-cost areas. I use a lot of handyman and semi-skilled renovation people, and right now am paying $15/hour cash. It's still not a lot to live on.

10. My daughter and her friends would have been happy with $3/hr
this summer. It beats $0/hour with no job.
The minimum wage in WA state is almost $9/hour, and
that may be why so many teens could not find jobs.

24. And who would lose their job because of that?
I'm sure that a lot of employers would jump at firing minimum wage workers so they could hire teenagers at the lower rate...

black teen age kids? Among all teenagers the unemployment rate
is still in mid-20's.

In my own neighborhood I see lot of small retail shops closing.
Almost every shop would have been better off with teenagers working
at $4 or $5 an hour. When a business closes, there is no one earning
ANY WAGE.

13. Minimum Wage should be a living Wage -- which should be $30 an hour at this point --
and what ever happened to corporations training people to do jobs?

They don't want to spend the time/money to do it -- they want our schools

to turn out robots for them!
