For the last effing time. Ben Nelson, Mary Landrieu and Blanche Lincoln and NOT CENTRISTS!!! |
|
If I read one more article describing them as "centrist" or "moderate" Democrats, I am going to lose it. Seventy percent of the country supports a real public option. THAT is the center. Those three goons don't even support some totally watered-down version of it. In my book, that's the right wing position. Same thing with the Stupak language. Ben Nelson just put out a statement that Harry Reid's language, which is a compromise of the compromise from the 1970s, isn't restrictive enough. Again, not centrist and not moderate.
These are the same positions that people like John Boehner, Mitch McConnell, Sarah Palin and Michelle Bachman are taking. They are not centrist positions.

5. There really is no such thing as "centrism" |
|
It's just an excuse for corporatism - which is what the DLC is and has always been about.

7. But they dont represent the entire coutry...... |
|
... so to apply a nationwide standard with which to examine their support of any given issue is a waste of time. Their constituents view them as left-wing and no doubt any challenger they might face from the GOP would be a MUCH worse alternative.

9. No, those would be the hillybilly peckerwoods without any good sense.... |

..... that's just the cold reality of the situation. Trust me, I'm surrounded by them.
I would love nothing more than for the wingnuts to vanish or for the Blue Dogs to buck their base and vote more progressively, but it's not going to happen.
And the ALTERNATIVE to the Blue Dogs is more Dr. No's.
MY Dr. No just stood before the assembled press and lied to the American people about what the Senate HC bill would do. It's not even a question of him possibly voting for cloture, he made it clear he was going to fight and stall and try to kill the bill. Its pointless for me to write them because I'm outnumbered.
You'll forgive me if I dont want the Blue Dogs being replaced with the BS more artists like the ones *I* have.

10. Well to be clear "single payer" is not a leftist position either |
|
single payer enjoys the support of every conservative party in the developed world outside the US.
It isn't even a moderate position outside of the US, its a consensus position everywhere but here.

12. They are definitely not centrists or moderates |
|
they are a reflection of the liberals' failure to educate the population on the issues. Liberals have been too busy apologizing for having empathy.
It's not about the campaign contributions either. You have to remember, if you vote them out they still win, because they get jobs on corporate boards, or with lobbying firms that they sided with.
I must say, though, that doesn't mean you shouldn't expect them to behave like leaders and educate their constituencies on the issues. If they won't, it would be nice if someone else would.
