Herman Cain: Black Voters 'Have Been Brainwashed Into Not Being Open-Minded' (VIDEO)
Herman Cain: Black Voters 'Have Been Brainwashed Into Not Being Open-Minded' (VIDEO)

During an interview that aired on CNN's "The Situation Room" on Wednesday night, Republican presidential candidate Herman Cain suggested that members of the African American community "have been brainwashed into not being open-minded, not even considering a conservative point of view."

The former CEO of Godfather's Pizza said, "I have received some of that same vitriol simply because I am running for the Republican nomination as a conservative." He added, "So it's just brainwashing and people not being open-minded, pure and simple."

Despite the comments, Cain signaled he sees "good news" in the situation in that he believes one-third to 50 percent of black Americans are "open-minded." He explained, "I meet them every day. They stop me in the airport. And so this whole notion that all black Americans are necessarily going to stay and vote Democrat and vote for Obama, that's simply not true. More and more black Americans are thinking for themselves. And that's a good thing."

The remarks from Cain come on the heels of his surprise win in the Florida straw poll. It's not the first time the GOP presidential contender has made provocative remarks on issues related to race.

1. This explains his recent surge ...
He gets to say the really over the top stuff they think about african americans and not be called a blooming idiot because he is an african american - their team is digging that he is willing to do this.

3. Well you know, they say he's a real African American, and President Obama isn't.

20. He has degrees in mathmatics from Morehouse (BS) and computer
science from Purdue (MS). I don't think his i.q. is really the issue.

22. He's a brilliant man. No question about it. In fact, he attended school at Morehouse with my Dad.
A brilliant man back then.

He's playing for a leadership role in the Republican party. Black conservatives have always been taught that their star rises faster when they are...well...conservative.

4. Way to win them over, Herman!
Belittling people by calling them "close-minded" and "brain-washed" is a sure way to get them to listen to you. Uh huh. I guess this schmuck never stopped to consider that they DID "consider a conservative point of view", and hate what the see.

Which is how he ended up being a black Republican calling other black people ignorant and brainwashed.

16. I don't suppose he's considered the alternatives
like, oh I don't know, that the Republicans- since Lincoln- haven't done much for nor care about African-Americans and their concerns. Has the Republican Party disavowed and/or apologized for their "Southeren Strategy" yet?

even in contexts that have absolutely nothing to do with her - unless the fact that SHE's black and CAIN's black is enough of a connection for you to assume that they're "comparing notes." . . .

All you have to do is listen to whom they favor and it is not the middle class and below.
