Mass. support for US Sen. Brown, Warren about even

BOSTON—A new poll released Sunday shows Massachusetts voter support for Republican U.S. Sen. Scott Brown and Harvard law professor Elizabeth Warren, a Democrat, would be about even if they were the choices in the 2012 Senate race.

The UMass Lowell-Boston Herald poll showed Brown getting 41 percent of the vote and Warren receiving 38 percent, signaling a close race more than a year out.

Warren, a consumer advocate, also was the strong favorite of the six Democratic candidates when pollsters surveyed potential Democratic primary voters. She garnered 36 percent of the vote while none of the other five got more than 5 percent.

<...>

In hypothetical presidential contests, President Barack Obama got 62 percent support of the registered Massachusetts voters while 25 percent favored Republican Texas Gov. Rick Perry. Between Obama and former Massachusetts Gov. Mitt Romney, the poll results were 57 percent for Obama and 33 percent for Romney.

Warren will win!

1. Well,
it is the Herald. That is really a right wing rag, so I will say that if they have it as a tie, that is a food thing.

"it is the Herald."

...it's the Globe, whatever that's worth. Still, the U-Mass poll shows that 37 percent "hadn't heard of Warren."

4. I think the above poster meant it is a U-Mass - Boston Herald poll which has them tied
Not that the article is from the Herald.

7. OK
Still, Obama's numbers are high, and with the high number of "haven't heard of" Warren garnered, I still say she'll win.

9. I totally agree
that she has an excellent chance of winning. My point is that she is likely (if the poll was taken by a more reliable source) ahead, not slightly behind.

5. Not only that, there was a LARGE undecided between them
and the better know Deval Patrick and Joe Kennedy easily beat Brown. My take away? Brown is very very vulnerable. He is in the low 40s against all three of them - and he is the incumbent and well known. Many do not know Warren. I would bet that her numbers could well converge to Kennedy's and Patrick's. (In fact, though no numbers were given, he is in a dead heat with Martha Coakley.

I don't think they would alter the University's poll results - though they did try to spin some of the sub category numbers. Still, these do not look good for Brown.

3. Send money to Warren if you can! She needs to be seen and heard
and once that happens, people will LOVE her! We're up against big bucks here, and we have to do what we can to try to help!

6. Brown at only 41% is bad news for him. He should be at at least 50%. Especially since
Warren's name ID is so low. She's gonna win!

18. Remember when Brown publicly supported those pay raises on Wall St?
Warren's campaign should run some of the video from his appearance at that event. That will say it all. I wish I had a link to it...it was a while back...

"Unrec for dismissing other Democratic candidates. But Brown will lose"

...free to unrec, but don't make up stuff to justify it. The OP is a news report about a poll. Obviously, Warren is a popular candidate among the Democrats running. Don't like Warren, fine. People are going to choose one of these candidates. That's the point. Just because they don't chose the one you support is no reason to pretend that the purpose is for everyone to go all in with every candidate. Not all of them are going to win the primary. There will only be one winner.

13. Who is my candidate? I assume you can tell me that too/.
Which would be nice, because I do not yet know who I would support. It could even be Elizabeth Warren. All I am saying is that there are many valuable candidates that have not yet had a chance to express themselves in the media because they do not have an open door in national media, and that, by saying Warren will win, you are dismissing them.

BTW, while Warren is the frontrunner, 64% have not yet settled on Warren (31 % have not even chosen at this point).

14. Well
"Who is my candidate? I assume you can tell me that too"

...you seem comfortable telling people what to do, send money, and making up claims that people are dismissing the other candidates.

It's called having an opinion. Your defensiveness is causing you to lose perspective. The OP is about a contest between Warren and Brown, and was the basis for the statement "Warren will win."

No one here is obligated to promote the Democratic field. If you want to take on that responsibility, feel free to start threads to give each of the candidates exposure on this board.

Dems have any realistic hopes of keeping the Senate.
