2. I agree, that is the best bet
but there is something about a Romney/Christie ticket that seems so very very Republican.

21. Think Clinton/Gore - two southerners
In our case, the south is our weakest area; in theirs, the Northeast is.

25. well technically Florida is considered a southern state
and it has 29 electoral votes, so I think that will be of importance. Plus they will see Rubio as somebody who can help with the hispanic vote. As for Mitt what is his homestate? he's like Bush and can claim several. Will it be Michigan, Utah or Massachusetts.

Or at least that is how Mitt's team will try to rewrite history (see course catalog: Revisionist Republican History 103)

11. … and I think we'll have Obama/Clinton
and Joe will move to Secretary of State. Hasn't Clinton indicated she won't continue in the State Department? This would completely re-energize the base and draw independent voters. Then she's top of ticket in 2016.

28. That's what Reagan was
McCain was 72 in 2008 and Dole was 73 in 1995. Yeah, they lost, but not because of age.

38. No way
Clinton was insanely popular in 1996. Dole was in good shape, and wasn't an extremist. Nothing he could have done would have made him win. McCain had many of his own problems. Plus Bush was so hated in 2008, even a first term Senator would have beaten any Republican. If it had been Hilary against Huckabee, Hilary would have won too.

Age didn't stop the 69 year old Reagan in 1980, and it certain didn't stop him at 73 in 1984. If he was allowed to run for a third term in 1988, he would have won that too at 77.

Personally, I'd rather vote for someone in their 60's or 70's than someone in their 30's or 40's. I prefer my presidents 60+.

12. Not a chance
If Romney gets the nomination, it will be against the wishes of the republican voters and because the bigwigs in charge wanted him. The religiously insane branch of republicans (their largest subset) has been told for years that Mormonism is a cult, and while the ministers who have been telling them that will gladly switch gears and praise Romney in order to get Obama out of the White House, it will still be a hard sell, and they'll need a ton of motivation. Romney can alleviate some of that by picking a southern, white Protestant Christian.

22. Don't think it necessary they are so whipped up against Obama VP choice won't matter
Consider 2004, the far left was not happy with Kerry, though he was the most liberal of the viable candidates. Edwards was far to Kerry's right and a media and party favorite. The left voted for Kerry - and would have no matter who (other than maybe Lieberman) he picked for VP. I seriously doubt that had Kerry picked a liberal - say Durbin, the left would have been more excited. (I was going to type Dean, but that would have been too NewEnglanders.)

Christie supported gay civil unions, tougher gun control laws and the lower Manhattan Islamic center. I don't think that would work.

24. Gov. Meatball has some heavy baggage to carry, influence peddling, no bid contracts, multiple cases

of ticket fixing including one where Christie drove down a one way street the wrong way and hit a motorcyclist, violations of the Hatch Act, a brother that magically avoided indictment for stock fraud while 15 of his partners were, the worst record in the nation on spending taxpayer money on travel and hotels during his term as State AG.
Mobsters keep a low profile to avoid public scrutiny. So do dirty politicians.

48. The ticket doesn't balance. The republicans it appeals to are no longer alive.
What you're describing is the kind of ticket that Mr. and Mrs. Robinson would have voted for. They could have had Serene Corporate Guy plus Pissed off Taxpayer Guy on a ticket. But those two types are not adequate right now. You need a guy who can't go 30 seconds without mentioning Jesus somewhere in the ticket, preferably a Southern Good Ol Boy. Or some Palinesque cheesecake on the ticket.
