1. it is hard to say how today's GOP base will react to the story |
|
Edited on Mon Oct-03-11 11:55 AM by Douglas Carpenter
In the normal world this would be very harmful and would probably be the final death knell to his campaign. But in the alternative universe of the tea party movement - it is imaginable that this could help redeem him from the on slot of criticism that essentially carried the theme that the is too liberal. I wouldn't bet one way or the other if this helps him or hurts him with the GOP caucus going and primary voting base.

2. I didn't hear Schultz's show, but I can see his argument. |
|
It's a whole lot less about liking Perry than recognizing the racism in a broad swath of republican primary voters.

I'm listening to Ed, and that seems to me how he meant it, too. He was commenting on Perry's base. And, here's a perfect example of what he means: http://www.democraticunderground.com/discuss/duboard.php?az=view_all&address=433x788610

The only one getting bad press out of this on the right is Herman Cain who is being called a race baiter. Perry's supporters love this story and see absolutely nothing wrong with it.

11. It may very well simply reinforce their notion that Perry is" just an ordinary guy" |
|
defining within their social subculture an ordinary guy as someone who talks just like real people that they know - not one of those pretentious professional politician types who has to make sure all their words are properly vetted and p.c. approved. They may very well look at it that way. I'm really not sure how this will affect his campaign.
