1. I may be wrong...
but I don't think you call a press conference to announce you're running for president.

4. Because one announces for POTUS with soaring rhetoric before throngs of adoring supporters...

...not at the NJ statehouse to a feeding frenzy of reporters.

Think...Obama in Feb 2007.

Jon Huntsman Makes It Official: 'I'm a Candidate for the Office of President of the United States of America'
http://abcnews.go.com/Politics/jon-huntsman-running-president-united-states/story?id=13892426

I would produce more examples, but this board's software is so clunky that producing cut'n'paste jobs is an onerous task. Here's hoping that the chimeric DU3 provides a user-friendly dashboard for performing HTML tasks with greater ease.

To anyone interested: conduct the following search in Google: "press conference" "running for president" announce
It will produce a slew of repugs holding press conferences for presidential purposes.

14. That actually is in support oF JD's point
The backdrop of Huntsman's announcement was the Statue of Liberty from the vantage of NJ's Liberty State Park. In addition to its own innate significance, Reagan once spoke at the same place.

6. Joe Scarborough said today on Morning Joe that he now thinks Christie
is running, whereas a few days ago he thought he wouldn't.

If Christie does run, he does so at his own peril. There are unintended consequences down the road, health only being one of them. Crashing and burning is no way to go through a presidential campaign, son...

7. Apple's big "roll out" is also scheduled for 1:00 PM.
Either this is a sign that Christie's NOT running or he is showing amateurish PR right out of the gate.

8. When he OFFICIALLY hits the water - look out
This as all been a dog and pony show as he raises millions under the table before being part of the official race.

I like this read that I found as a result of another thread here:

Headline today: “Christie Would ‘Cannonball’ Republican Field.” Cannonball? As a child who grew up in diving in hotel/motel pools before this was outlawed, I would say a Chris Christie “Cannonball” would be more like a tsunami.

11. If he decides to run,
what's he going to run on: destroying NJ public sector, increasing unemployment, annihilating property tax rebates (the lie that he used to fool NJ voters) and raising property taxes, giving tax cuts to the rich and cronyism?

Christie would likely not win re-election in NJ.

19. Read Christie was Rupert Murdoch's candidate and he promised Meg Whitman he wouldn't run if she held
Edited on Tue Oct-04-11 11:03 AM by flpoljunkie
a big fundraiser for him in California--which she did.

Because Christie is in a line of earlier candidates like Rudy Giuliani, who was not only also a Murdoch darling but also the product of the imagination of a certain kind of coastal, big donor Republicanism. To put it bluntly, as the thinking goes in these folks minds, wouldn't the Republican party be even more awesome if it didn't have all these bible-thumpers and Southern crackers? It could be even better just focusing on tax cutting and just kicking ass in general -- especially unions and other whiners. In other words, like Rudy or this new guy Chris Christie.

Christie Told Fundraisers Last Week He Wouldn't Run

New Jersey Gov. Chris Christie (R), "who has kept the political world in suspense for weeks over his presidential intentions, told prominent California fund-raisers and donors as recently as last Wednesday he had no plans to seek the White House," the Wall Street Journal reports.

"One assurance took the form of a pledge Mr. Christie made to Meg Whitman, the newly appointed Hewlett-Packard Co. chief executive, said two people familiar with the matter. As a condition of Ms. Whitman hosting a high-priced fund-raiser for him, Mr. Christie said he wouldn't enter the Republican presidential contest."

Whether or not he will help himself to another heap of succulent pot roast?

My theory is....YES! He will consume EVEN MORE food.
