So if it's Cain vs. Obama...
What do you think that race would look like? I know it depends on economy and unemployment and all, but let's say that remains about the same in 2012. What do you think the results would be on Election Day? Who would the racists vote for?

Remember, I'm not asking who you want to win, but who you think would win and why. :)

...not say who you think the "racists" will vote for since you're throwing out this hypothetical? Maybe Cain will win the nomination and choose Paul as his VP. Joy for lunatics!

4. I think they'll probably vote third party
Cain won't choose Paul, because of his work as state Federal Reserve Chairman, poison for the anti-Feds. I asked the question because I'm wondering if it'll be a good thing for Obama. I lean toward yes, but I'd like to hear other opinions.

"I think they'll probably vote third party"

...if they do, that wouldn't be good news for the Republican nominee, huh?

7. Not at all
But just because I "think" they'll vote third party or sit home, doesn't mean they will. What do you think? I'm looking for other opinions.

...if the racists don't vote third party or sit home, it'll be just another election, and they'll vote how they always voted still harboring some deeply flawed thinking and hatred.

6. It would be fun to see teabagger heads explode.

But I am afraid that for every racist in that movement there are four or five fervent ideologues.
If the Koch brothers want the Tea Party to get behind Cain, it will.

And Cain is smart. Might not agree with a damn thing he proposes or says, but he made it in the corporate world on genuine performance (he brought home the numbers in a game where the only color that matters is green, and repeatedly so), has a masters degree in computer systems. fairly eloquent and seems to avoid making the same mistake twice. Underestimate him at our peril, he's got quite a few IQ points on Perry or Palin.

In a perverse way, as a Political science major with a specialty in analysis of polling data, it would be interesting to see the voting demographics if Cain *was* the nominee. What would happen to the African American vote? What percentage of teabaggers are racist as opposed to deluded about economic and cultural issues unrelated to race?

As the old saw goes, "Democrats fall in love, Republicans fall in line".

14. We don't know a lot about him yet
Edited on Tue Oct-04-11 05:59 PM by Proud Liberal Dem
If he became a real threat to Romney, people will start digging around. Even if there isn't any real serious "dirt" to be found, he still doesn't have the breadth and/or depth to be POTUS IMHO, his 9-9-9 plan is too radical for most people, his statements about HCR are easily rebutted (and have been), and, speaking of his health, is having somebody who's had stage four (?) liver cancer healthy enough to serve as POTUS? That sounds pretty serious. IMHO Cain is just the "flavor of the month" right now for the GOP. I don't expect it to continue but I will reserve judgement for when the actual primary voting starts (if he is still in the running by then).

12. I'll never happen. The Republican primary base is orders of magnitude too racist.
There's a lot of difference between expressing a vaguely positive opinion of Cain in a phone poll, and actually voting for him. The teabaggers might consider Cain "one of the good ones," but they're still not going to vote for him.

13. Cain (almost certainly) won't win the nomination
he's enjoying some *success* as a result of Perry's vomiting all over himself but I don't think he's ultimately going anywhere. Of course, Republican teabaggers seem to love Allen West, so................

For crying out loud Cain does not even have a white mother. His father was a janitor!

22. Obama would win
I don't think Cain would be able to raise the money, or get enough support from the republican base in the long run. It would be a very exciting race, and would be great for America, to have the two major candidates in the race be African American. Another historical step forward.

I predict it won’t take long for Herman Cain long to be reminded of how small the Conservative Tea Party world really is. Just ask Michael Steel.

Unless Palin decides to run a third party. I know she already said she wouldn't, but she's a liar. Look how many times Christie said he wasn't running, but that didn't bother these assholes. Even though he said he wasn't ready to be President, didn't stop them either.
