The Consumer Financial Protection Bureau (CFPB) will not have its full authority to protect consumers until it has a director. The president's nominee to head this crucial bureau, Richard Cordray, is qualified, respected and deserves your support.

I urge you to act swiftly and vote to confirm Richard Cordray to direct the CFPB.

Richard Cordray has been nominated by President Obama to head the Consumer Financial Protection Bureau (CFPB). Cordray was handpicked by Professor Elizabeth Warren as one of her top deputies in setting up the CFPB. As Ohio's attorney general, Cordray earned a reputation of being tough the financial industry. He was among the first attorneys general to take action in the nationwide foreclosure investigation into the mishandling of paperwork and successfully sued AIG to expose banks' use of hidden fees and other methods of exploiting consumers.

Wall Street and right-wing Republicans don't want the CFPB and have made their intentions clear to sabotage the important agency in any way they can and prevent it from protecting consumers. Since the CFPB requires a permanent director in order to operate with full authority, some Senate Republicans see defeating the nomination of Richard Cordray as priority #1 in crippling the Bureau.
