Obama meeting with corporate job-cutting/wage cutting executives on his "job creation" panel.

Obama's job-creation panel includes job-cutting executives
On the president's team of business and labor advisors are the heads of several companies that have reduced workforces while posting record profits.
By Alana Semuels, Los Angeles Times
October 9, 2011

In another public demonstration of concern about the struggling economy, President Obama will meet in Pittsburgh on Tuesday with the business and labor leaders he has chosen to counsel him on job creation.

But many of the chief executives have cut American jobs and adopted tactics that weaken organized labor — even as their businesses post record profits.

The executives are members of the President's Council on Jobs and Competitiveness, which Obama created in January by appointing 26 leaders of companies including American Express, Comcast and Intel. (A 27th member was added in June.)

"Nobody should expect this group to come up with innovative ways of investing in the American workforce and generating not only more jobs but higher wages," said Robert Reich, who was Labor secretary during the Clinton administration. "That's just not what these big companies do."

"Obama meeting with corporate job-cutting/wage cutting executives on his 'job creation' panel."

...he's trying to convince them to support his jobs proposal.

Richard Trumka is a member of the council

Statement by AFL-CIO President Richard Trumka on September Employment

Our nation's leaders should require no further evidence of the need to pass the President's American Jobs Act than the September jobs numbers. Though the net gain of 103,000 jobs in September is a positive sign, it remains far too weak to provide any real relief for working families. The jobs crisis was made worse by the loss of 34,000 public sector jobs, most of which were teachers. The weak job growth and stubbornly high unemployment rate of 9.1 percent show that real danger still looms. Now is the time for Congress to act to create millions of jobs and put America back to work.

Union chief implores liberal activists to get Obama’s back on jobs proposal

AFL-CIO President Richard Trumka implored liberal activists Thursday to get behind President Obama’s jobs bill.

Speaking at the Take Back the American Dream conference, the head of the nation’s largest labor federation said activists should support the White House’s $447 billion proposal, which includes funding to repair infrastructure, modernize school buildings and provide aid to local and state governments. Trumka said the legislation would help build a nationwide movement on jobs.

“Our first step is to support President Obama’s American Jobs Act and his demand that the millionaires and billionaires who have profited so handsomely pay their fair share of taxes to create jobs,” Trumka said.

<...>

There's a lot of good stuff in the President's proposal and it will have a significant impact.

You posted the same kind of outraged OP content again and again after President Obama appointed the bipartisan Debt Commission. Amusingly enough, after all the hyperventilated over-the-top vitriol here re: Alan Simpson (which conveniently ignored the existence of liberal Debt Commission members such as the head of SIEU), President Obama rejected all of the commission's non-liberal recommendations.
