He tried to side step anti-mormon comments that a supporter made. He ended up supporting free speech and, as he finished talking, ended by stating that he opposed the anti-mormon comments. .. on edit - he tried so hard to avoid disavowing these comments, yet he couldn't stay the course..

but his words "and this is the case here" suggested to me that the legal (under the first amendment) anti-mormon speech was not supported by Perry.
I guess it was pretty nuanced
