What If The Tea Baggers Snatch Defeat Out Of The Jaws Of Victory? |
|
Reelection campaigns are almost always referendums on the incumbent and his or her management of economy. It's an iron law of politics. If Americans believe the incumbent is doing a good job they will rehire him or her. If they think the incumbent is doing a poor job they will fire him or her. It's really that simple.
However, it is not inconceivable that the Tea Baggers will nominate a Herman Cain or Rick Perry who are so beyond the pale that President Obama can be reelected with a approval rating that would guarantee defeat against a sane opponent.
I pooh poohed a Perry or Cain nomination but now I am not so sure.

though the Republican establishment- along with the media- sure seems determined to get rid of Perry, which is strange given that I thought that he'd be the most popular Republican candidate in the field among the teabaggers.

Short attention span. Republicans got us into this mess with Bush, who was re-elected.
It's not just back and forth. I know the electorate is thought of as stupid, but really. And the Republicans have no one good for a reason. No one good wants to support their silly ideas. The rich have had their taxes cut. They aren't creating jobs. Or, not here. The Democrats are trying and the Republicans obstruct. They are the party of irrational yahoos.

3. Thought Perry had lock on Republican nomination, has money. Tea Party Hates Romney. Not sure now. |
|
I had faith the Tea Party would push the Republican Party over a cliff. They were willing to push the World Economy over a cliff earlier this year.
Will the Tea Party really work to get Romney elected? I'm just not sure.
Maybe the time of the Tea Party is over. Maybe they have run out of steam.
The Tea Party is losing its appeal. More people see it, now, as harmful.
