Would you have easily supported a military action that would have propped up South Africa in 1989? |
|
Even if the purpose of this action were to destroy a truly wicked group of people? That is the choice gay people face, in looking at the latest intervention in Uganda and other countries. Uganda is about as anti gay as a country can get. This action will help prop up that government. It is a punch in the gut that the very first action that newly able to be out gay soldiers in that outfit will be involved in will prop up a government that would imprision them for life. I support the action due to the very horrible people it is being taken against, but before you accuse gay posters of not caring about African lives for opposing this action, ask yourself the question I asked at the beginning of this post. Not an easy one to answer, is it?

1. I support going after the LRA despite the fight taking place in Uganda. |

Supporting the fight against the evil acts of one group does not equate to supporting the Ugandan government, despite the fact that our goals seem to be in common with their's (the government).
But I do appreciate the dilemma, especially to any troops having to go there to fight.

2. You know who's killed a lot of gay people? The Lord's Resistance Army. |

"prop up the Ugandan government"
You could just as easily say this puts pressure on the Ugandan government to work with the US and modernize.

4. How does it put such pressure on them? |
|
they are getting us to help them fight their enemy with no apparent change in policy.
