Uganda President Clarifies That U.S. Troops Will Be ‘Gathering Intelligence’ Not Engaging In Combat
News broke over the weekend that President Obama is sending roughly 100 U.S. troops into Uganda to help in the fight against the Lord’s Resistance Army, but Ugandan President Yoweri Museveni has clarified that they will not actually be fighting the LRA. He spoke at a news conference earlier today saying it would be more accurate to describe the forces as “U.S. personnel” as opposed to ground troops.

According to Museveni, all the soldiers will be doing is intelligence gathering against the LRA and its leader Joseph Kony. The United States has been sharing satellite intelligence with Uganda, even though, according to the Associated Press, the LRA does not pose any kind of direct security threat to the United States.

But Museveni seemed to take offense at the very idea that the U.S. would be assisting in direct combat.

“When you call them troops you are saying that they are coming to fight on our behalf… We shall never have troops coming to fight for us. I cannot accept foreign troops to come and fight for me. We have the capacity to fight our wars.”

4. That makes him incapable of uttering any sentence that may contain facts?
Doesn't make sense.

Or is it because it counters the claim that war-happy Obama is lighting up another one?

5. He advocates death for gays
yes, literally. So no I don't trust his ass any more than I could throw it. Would you accept the word of a Klansman? He is a Klansman from my perspective.

7. I'm curious based on your line of questioning
Would you accept the word of a 'former' Klansman?

9. Depends
Hugo Black was a former Klansman and a terrific Supreme Court justice. Robert Byrd did better on race but as to gays he was just as bigotted in 2007 and he was in 1937. David Duke is a former Klansman, enough said. Actions speak.

11. He has honor to defend? I don't think Russ Feingold is defending the Ugandan
government so much as he is trying to rid that part of Africa of the LRA.

12. The issue is whether Museveni is a good source or not

8. Aid to speed the final solution
This is the nation and the man who seeks to kill all the gay people. To assist him is to aid pure evil. This is a great wrong, and perhaps a last straw for those who are not fans of pogroms and genocide. Vile.

10. Russ Feingold is speeding the final solution? Are you truly accusing a Jewish person
of assisting in pogroms and genocide????

Beyond the pale. Disgusting.

16. actually I bet we have troops on all seven.
Antarctica is a jointly run military base, Australia has troops since WW2 (part of SEATO), and the rest are covered with our various wars, and NATO.
