Herman Cain Said His Sales Tax Only Applies To "New Goods"
Since poor folks spend most of their income on food and medicine I don't even want to think what used food is.

The fact he could be leading the president or tied with the president in any poll is disturbing.

America is starting to scare me.

1. Sounds Fair Tax-y to me.
Wouldn't a sales tax only on new goods discourage manufacturing? With such a system in place, financially savvy folks would rarely buy anything new.

16. This morning on CNN,
they showed a clip of some old white guy, probably 60-65. He looked working class to me - like he's worked hard all his life. He said, "Cain is more like me than any of the other candidates. I'd vote for me, so I'd vote for him."

This is what we are up against. This guy thinks that someone like him is qualified to run the country. :banghead: I won't even address the faulty logic this old timer has that Cain, a millionaire, is anything like him.

The stupid runs deep in this country. When I was a kid, people weren't proud to be ignorant. But that's changed. There's an entire group of people who are ignorant & proud of it. I have one in my family. It's scary.

20. Having grown up in southern Indiana, I have witnessed that transformation as well.

People were proud when their kids went to college when I was growing up. Today, it shames some of them when a kid does that. A very common phrase where I grew up is, "there is such a thing as too much education."

I also remember a popular local politician saying something angrily at his opponent. His re-election bid was considered dead on the spot. Today, they cheer politicans for that.

Occasionally, I would hear some old-timer go off on a racist rant. When he left the room everyone would shake their heads and talk about what an asshole the guy is. Today, they talk about how much they agree with what the man said.

We were going to the moon when I was a kid. Today, they tell me we can not afford social security.

28. I can't think of many things that have been invented, developed, or
thought of in America since about 1975. Since then we seem to fallen into a precipitous slide toward worshiping the ignorant, the mean, and the greedy. In realistic terms, this trend can only end in disaster for all living things in America.

29. How would this go?
After Cain brings up his 9-9-9 plan and that it would not apply to used goods.

Say "Is that how you keep the price of your pizza down and make a profit? Used ingredients?"

do you really think the Republicans (ie tea party) have any use for a black man, other than window dressing? in the next few months Herman will be retired to the shelf, along side Condi rice, and Micheal Steel... you know the guy who ostensibly ran the party besides Rush Limbaugh, and the Koch brothers..

will buy a used yacht for $1,000,000 with maybe 1800 nautical miles on it, and save not only on the original price of $1,200,000 but also $108,000 in Federal sales tax....$300,000+ savings. Enough to buy a collectors (used) Bentley. Not bad for one days work as the office.

18. yeah I heard him make that rationale, that it's only for 'new goods' I really wish he would be
nominated because if the American people knew he was going to propose a 9% sales tax he'd be lucky to carry a single state--and I mean that.

21. Used cars less than 3 years old is the way to go
You will pay less than half on most makes, and if you check them out for absence of abuse, they will give you good service. I started doing that 30 years ago, and would never buy a new car again.

23. Used cars eventually wear out!
Everything wears out. Even my underwear! It should be called overwear!!

Ebay is the first place I go now-a-days to buy anything. I have found dozens and dozens of items there for a fraction of a cost over new. As my ID indicates, I play a lot of golf, and I must have bought over 50 clubs, mostly used, on Ebay.
