I retract my long standing prediction of a Rubio Presidency in 2016. |
|
He's done.
But whoever is Mittens's running mate has a good shot, assuming it's not a throwaway candidate like Mittens himself.

5. Yes, Rubio's fortunes have surely changed this week |
|
But I'm not sure that it's Mittens who will be doing the pickin'. The country clubber Republicon establishment is working hard on the tea partiers to get on board with Gov. Flip-Flop (R-MA,MI,UT) but I don't think they're going to convince the fundies, who I think are now permanently in the Herman Cain camp.
I see nobody going to Tampa with a first-ballot victory in hand.

24. He lied about his family's exodus from Cuba |
|
He said that his family bravely fled the dictator Castro and it turns out they left a couple of years before and then flew back for family visits after Castro took power during the time that the US and Cuba still had normal relations.
They become not political refugees but economic migrants who then used oppression to make themselves look better.
For the Tea Party with their birtherism and their anti economic migration and their opposition to lying about being anti communist he managed to hit three big buttons all at the same time.
Some birthers are being reasonably consistent and saying that he doesn't meet the constitutional standard because his parents weren't citizens when he was born.
I think it does eliminate this time around as VP (which may explain why he was being shy about it from the begining) but it will be past history in 4 years.

and it was 12 years later in FDR's case. As far as I know, no other losing vice-presidential candidate has ever received his party's nomination for president. Why do you think the 2012 election would be different?

20. That was part of my original reasoning starting the night Rubio was elected. |
|
Just enough Latinos would vote for him to put him over the top, just because he's Latino.
But now, I do not believe he will be selected to run with Mittens. I was 100% sure before.
And without a VP run under his belt, teabaggers doubting his legitimacy, and his boldface lie, I doubt he can even secure the 2016 nomination.

15. One has to suspend disbelief to take any of these hucksters seriously |
|
The problem is one of them is going to actually be nominated and gets an automatic 40% of the vote for showing up.
I can't impact what they do, so I tend to not devote much energy to their internal choices. I have no doubt it will be a crook, an idiot, or most likely both and just go from there.
There is no least bad or even a most easily bested opponent. Cheering on any of them is wasted energy, the most "moderate" and "sane" are off the meter and the biggest idiot is quite likely to be installed to fuck up the country.

26. I don't think that's a big deal, actually. It could be that his parents lied to him. |
|
It could also be that people who voted for him didn't vote for him because of that one thing, or primarily that one thing.
Romney has lied plenty, and looks like he's going to be the nominee. Bush lied plenty.
Hey, it'd be a big deal to me, but Republicans tend to think that the evils that one of their own do just aren't that bad. They stick together.
They're likely to think....at least he's not a moderate!
