Your Field is Set, Stop Complaining

The Weekly Standard is still pining for Rep. Paul Ryan (R-WI) to run for president. Now they're publishing their readers' emails. When was the last time a sitting member of the House successfully ran for president?

Isn't it a little late in the game? I don't know that Ryan would even have time to get on the ballot in some states. New Hampshire's filing date will be over by next week. At some point, people need to come to grips with the fact their choices are set. They've got a choice that includes a human flapjack, a guy who sold the world's worst pizza, a woman who thinks democracy in the Arab world is a bad thing, a guy whose name evokes images of a frothy mix, a disgraced former Speaker of the House, a Texan so stupid he makes Bush look smart, and friggin' Ron Paul. :D

My advice is to stop bitching and get behind Romney. He's the worst flip-flopper in the history of politics but he can probably keep it close and he might even win. I don't think any of the other candidates are a lock to even win their home states.

1. Republicans are natural born complainers...
Edited on Wed Oct-26-11 04:12 PM by ellisonz
...They complain on Sunday morning at IHOP to the waitress about the wait time for a table, the service, the cost of a country scramble and a cup of coffee and then leave no tip.:sarcasm:

Edit for grammar.

2. You sure they're naturally born?
I think they just sprout from between Rush's belly rolls.

Yuck.

Sorry.

5. I think it has to do with the Christian characteristic...
of always claiming they are being persecuted or treated unfairly in a nation full of CHRISTIANS!

6. When was the last time a sitting member of the House successfully ran for president?
. . . was, if I am not mistaken, when House Speaker James K. Polk was elected in 1844. Polk is the only man to have been both House Speaker and President.

7. Actually James Garfield was the only sitting member of the House elected President in 1880.
Polk was a former Speaker, but he was no longer in the House when he won the presidential election. He was Governor of Tennessee for one term between leaving the House and becoming President in 1844.
